Atlantic division is gonna be a mess. there are 5 very competitive, solid teams there. i think the team that misses out is the team that doesn't take care of Fla-TB-Buff the way they should.

And he has shown so far that he is ready. To deny him a roster spot after earning it would not send the right message. Let him stay with the team a month or so rotating him in and out for his 9 games and then make the decision to send him back down. Rielly being on the Leafs will not only be for his development but would benefit the team as well. Gardiner needs the Cody Franson treatment and cannot get too comfortable. He needs to raise his compete level and maybe seeing Rielly, who is a similar player, will pressure him to raise his game.

I think it comes down to how those teams play against each other more than anything. Games against teams you're competing with come down to "4 point" games, whereas losing to Fla or Buff, two poop teams, only hurts you but doesn't help the competition.

That's great. It doesn't make him a 3-4 dman though, just the type of guy who Franson plays well with.

Don't forget that they succeeded while playing easier minutes against lower quality of competition than the others though. Give Gardiner 17-18 minutes of easy time rather than over 20 mins of more difficult time, and he would also look extremely good...

And despite contrary opinions, I wouldnt try to develop both on the team this year and try to make the playoffs at the same time. But that's just me.
