League is a bit different. A player is named captain because of their leadership qualities, not because of the name on the jersey. Gretzky was never a leader in this league. It was the right choice.

Yeah, I mean it sounds nice "he paid his dues" or he's "been a cornerstone on the team now for years" but I'm not exactly sure we have that luxury.

Ference came in with Mac-T and Eakins, some good politics if you ask me.

I like the move and to be honest it wasn't shocking. It was either Gagner or Ference to me and with gagner out this makes the most sense. That and I think Ference will hand the letter to Hall when the time is right. Neither guy really cares about the letter, but Ference seems like the guy that will do the right thing for PR purposes.

I say Gagner and Ference where the two choices to me as they've hung out a lot with Eakins lately. Ference more so is a Eakins guy and a good guy to pass messages along to the players or back to Eakins.

Yep, Ference huge part of Boston's turnaround due to his character,top-notch teammate, solid defenseman and a great person in the community. Yeah he would make a terrible captain. Probably would contribute to bad things
