They have a couple options. IMO, Schenn or Couturier to the AHL is the preferable one, over trading Meszaros and eating money. Of course then they have to pay Meszaros his $5.5mm and have a 7th defenseman with a $4mm cap hit and can't keep Hal Gill as the 7th guy, which they seem to want to do.
- Jsaquella

I'd actually like for the Phantoms to sign Gill to a minor league deal, if for nothing else to help out the younger guys. He may not be very mobile, but his positioning and defensive sense is still very good. Unfortunately, there comes a time when the body just can't do what the mind wants, and that time has come for Gill. He'll make for a very good assistant coach one day.

I'm just hoping they don't do anything shortsighted just to get under the cap. They may just send Schenn or Couturier down to get compliant and then they can LTIR MAB and Pronger and recall them.

Of course they can just send 4 guys to the AHL and recall whomever they want. They have options.

Yeah. Raffl scored twice yesterday. I have a feeling he's going to be recalled.

At Gill's age I doubt he has any interest in playing in the AHL. If he doesn't make an NHL roster he may retire.

I'd absolutely be open to that. Gill is widely known as a good guy, and he's been credited with being a positive influence on PK Subban in Montreal.

I'm violently opposed to him as the 7th guy, but it seems like a typical "Flyers gonna Flyer" move.

Possible.

I do wish the Meszaros for Mitchell rumor had gone down. That would have been an ideal move for the Flyers to swing.

He may. But if it's his only option, he gets to keep playing and and make another $600K or so, I'd at least offer it.

Yeah, an AHL only deal for small money keeps him playing and available if another team comes knocking.

It's possible. Who knows. With his lack of mobility I see him constantly getting called for holding penalties to try and compensate.

He really might. But hey, just more time for the young guys to learn how to play on the PK.

Besides, someone needs to fill out that roster when Akeson's centering the first line. I'm guessing Oliver "Bobby Orr" Lauridsen can move to top-line AHL LW.

Why no Hall? Was he assigned to the Phantoms? I thought he was just waived, not claimed, and will probably be in the lineup on Wednesday.

So dumb.

a 13-year-old is fully capable. Doesn't make it a good idea.

Hopefully it's just temporary until they make another move prior to this evening.

Someone needs to center them. Either Hall, Laughton, or Gill.

Haven't heard. Just can't believe he was exposed to waivers and not Rosehill.

Yuo. I don't mind Rinaldo if he plays with some semblance of control. He's a good agitator and can draw penalties. He also has a little skill and brings energy. Rosehill is a waste of everyone's time.

Jay Rosehill is exactly the type of player that should be eliminated from the game.

Even though I dislike what Rinaldo brings (for the most part), he at least can do something other than punch faces.

At least he's better than Shelley. Watching Shelley skate with the puck was pretty much just torture. I mean, I felt bad for the guy, but he was just done. Rosehill at least has a semblance of speed and can still forecheck.

I'd take that deal with Liles before I'd trade an asset for Meszaros. Liles can play and be protected in the right situation.Meszaros has been an out and out mess.

I'd even be more willing to grab a kid like Phillip Larsen than trade for Meszaros.

- Jsaquella

A team would be foolish to take on Liles with 3 years still left on his deal. He's just not a very good player any more in my opinion. In terms of an asset to acquire Meszaros, it's not likely to be that big of an asset if the Flyers want to move Meszaros. Not to mention that Meszaros is a significantly better player then either Liles or Schultz. And he only has this year left on his deal.

They haven't officially sent Hall, Gervais or anyone else to the AHL, since they loaned VandeVelde.

As of right now, per capgeek.com, they're $1,951,022 over the salary cap. That includes Hall and Gervais, as well as Bourdon, none of whom have been assigned anywhere.

Removing Hall and Gervais leaves them with $526,022 left to go. Sending down Bourdon gets them below the cap by $86,478.
