Random thought or rumour? I can't see that we have the cap room, nor the need as I am happy with our top six.

One year left, $6mm cap hit, 31 years old...That's a lot of cabbage.

Roy is saying his roster is set..If that's correct, then no Mitchell trade.

Nope. Given the names available on waivers, not sure how they can move him.

Are the Flyers compliant or do they still need to make one more move?

They still need to assign Hall, Gervais and Bourdon to the AHL, and then they will have to cut another $16,022 to get under the cap-which can be easily done by sending Schenn or Couturier to the AHL on paper for 24 hours.

Wouldn't it make more sense to now put Hall back on the roster and just waive Rosehill. I don't think there is any chance they would lose him and that should get them just under. This way they can take full advantage of Pronger's LTIR.

Rosehill can't clear waivers by 5 pm today, so waiving him now does nothing at all to help their cap situation.

They're at the point of sending down Schenn or Couturier or some other waiver exempt player(not sure they have any other exempt players) to the AHL or make a trade that dumps salary. Those are pretty much the options.

I think a trade has to be close to going down. Holmgren said he wouldn't be sending Schenn or Couturier down as a paper move. Then again a few weeks ago he said Cleary would be at practice. So it's possible he's in used car salesman mode.

Well if that's the case, I'm expecting a trade to go down. I think Mez will be moved today even if they have to eat 30-40% of his salary and cap hit. It would still be enough of a savings to accomplish what they need. I have to think at a salary of 3.3 million and a cap hit of 2.4, Mez becomes much more attractive to some teams.

They have a couple options. IMO, Schenn or Couturier to the AHL is the preferable one, over trading Meszaros and eating money. Of course then they have to pay Meszaros his $5.5mm and have a 7th defenseman with a $4mm cap hit and can't keep Hal Gill as the 7th guy, which they seem to want to do.

If I need a defenseman, I'm far more likely to claim JML or Shcultz than trade for Meszaros

I want Hal Gill nowhere near this team. Gervais is fine as a 7th dman.

Exactly. Why give up an asset, when you can claim one of those guys.

I agree wholeheartedly...Gill didn't show much of anything, but I guess they like his locker room presence and veteran leadership. Hopefully whomever the 7th guy is, he won't play much.

Gill as a non-playing 7th guy would be OK. If someone in the top 6 is out for more than a game they can recall a half-decent defenseman from the AHL and Gill can remain as the 7th D.

JML has three years left on his contract at $3.875 million. I don't think many teams are lining up to relieve Toronto of that burden.

We can hope that, but the way things usually go, by November Gill or Gervais will be on the second pairing.

I'd take that deal with Liles before I'd trade an asset for Meszaros. Liles can play and be protected in the right situation.Meszaros has been an out and out mess.

I'd even be more willing to grab a kid like Phillip Larsen than trade for Meszaros.

I'm just hoping they don't do anything shortsighted just to get under the cap. They may just send Schenn or Couturier down to get compliant and then they can LTIR MAB and Pronger and recall them.

Of course they can just send 4 guys to the AHL and recall whomever they want. They have options.
