If we have depth enough in D to send a player like Corrado down to the farm (which we actually do) then that's where the trade for an impact player needs to come from. Trade a D for a top 6 forward. Let's go Gillis... - AlexF
if this team struggles you may see an impact trade later this year. |

Good point. If all the rumors are true about them shopping Edler this summer, they were thinking about making an impact trade from this position at one point.

So, have the Canucks just created over a million in cap space by sending Horvats 1.75m ELC to junior? Dalphe makes 550k.... |

We kind of need some cap space for that....and another team with the opposite problem.... - chompsey
Trade Edler ($5m cap) for a froward at or close to the same cap. Problem solved. |

Because it sounded good at the time? I'm all for player loyalty but we also need to be addressing the team's needs as and when they arise, not only when all the stars align contractually speaking. |

There were rumors after July 1st that Edler was still being shopped. Maybe there was some truth to that, maybe not. If it was, maybe Edler left the door open for a couple destinations?
If all NTC's on our D are concrete... the only asset worth anything is Tanev and not likely to land a big fish on his own.

Then who quarterbacks the PP? If Edler puts his game together, I wouldn't move him - best all around Canucks dman...... |

i dont think so, the guy can shoot but there is no way that guy should be quarterbacking any PP.....he's the triggerman on the PP tho.... |

Garrison. - AlexF
Then we open up a new problem, lack of a highly skilled puck moving d-man. I don't believe in the rest of this d-core as much when it comes purely to offensive skill. Garrison has a bomb, but he can't carry the puck. Hamhuis is decent, same with Bieksa but nit highly skilled offensively. I'd rather keep Edler, buyout Booth next season and use the freed up cap space to sign or acquire a top 6 forward. Plus Horvat/Shinkaruk/Corrado will be a year older by then. |

Let me get this straight, the consideration for who should QB the 1st PP unit (which sucked last year even with Edler btw) should trump the need to attain a top 6 forward that might actually address our biggest concern for the past several seasons (scoring)? |

So will the Sedins, Luongo, and Kesler who may even closer to that final injury which puts him out of commission for extended amounts of time.
I've seen this team with Edler absent and I didn't see a gaping hole open up at the back. What I have seen over the past few seasons are gaping holes in productivity up front. Those are still there. |

Unless there is some tragic season ending injuries(aside from Booth), we play out this line up with just tinkering by management and coaches I think. I fear changing our D at this point anyways which with Luongo, will be what gets us into the playoffs. I don't see the Canucks domination in the scoring department outside of special teams.

Well Horvats actual cap hit is 900k I believe. Shink is like 750k. Canucks actually have about 2.5 mill in cap space |

Yeah. I think the canucks might be better suited for close gritty games under AV |
