Upon further review I'm quite intrigued by the Dalpe acquisition.

6.1, 195 pounds and only 23 years old. Can play wing or center, drafter 45th overall.

While playing 41 games in the NHL he has amassed 10 points, tho the totality of those games were split between three separate seasons.

This is the interesting thing:

First year in the AHL: 2009-2010 Albany River Rats-AHL 9gp 6 2 8p

Second: 2010-2011 Charlotte Checkers-AHL 61gp 23 34 57p

Third: 2011-2012 Charlotte Checkers-AHL 56gp 18 14 32p

Fourth: 2012-2013 Charlotte Checkers-AHL 54gp 21 21 42 p

If Jensen for example had put up points like that in the A( had he played more then a handful of games) we would be screaming for a call up, let alone after he scores a hat-trick.

Hockey's Future had this to say on his behalf, "A fine offensive talent, Dalpe has done enough to impress management with his scoring ability. He is an excellent playmaker who has the uncanny ability to shoot just as well as pass, making for a deceptive forward who is sure to rack up points in whatever league he plays in".

Owww, and his favorite team is the Vancouver Canucks. The kid definitely has a better pedigree then the other projects Gillis has coveted. I guess my only real issue with the trade is the fact that we can't send him down, thus his development with this franchise will be straight into the fire of NHL intensity, as he is waiver eligible and likely to be claimed.

John-Michael Liles was just placed on waivers by Toronto. Would that be a Alberts Upgrade?

Wow, great deal IMO. That's basically third line money and he's a hell of a third line player. That deal is going to look great in a year or two when the cap goes up and UFA third liners start getting offered 3 million+ regularly by crazy GM's.

I'll update and post my blog once every team has made their final cuts to get to under 23 to post some good trade/waiver targets, although I suspect that the Dalpe move might have taken the wind out of the sail a bit.

This is starting to look like a "MoneyBall" type of move for Gillis, here's a good read on Dalpe:

http://www.shutdownline.c...e-left-for-zac-dalpe.html

Dalpe's on-ice shooting percentage(meaning his entire line's/unit's shooting %) was also ridiculously low at under 5% last year which means he had some really bad puck luck and explains why he may have failed to impress at the NHL level last season.

I'd take Sulzer back over Alberts easily as well, but like you suggested with those 2 players above they'd probably want a big, physical d-man.
