I know short term injuries still count against the cap, but as far as I know, they can be replaced by a player from anywhere up to their cap hit value until they return.

If the same mechanism applies to suspensions, you could replace Clarkson and McLarens spots in the line up with guys like Ashton, Colborne, Biggs, DaMigo, etc. without adding to the overall team cap hit, aslong as those players don't have a cap hit that's higher than the guy they're replacing.

...are you counting bonus cushion? Gardiner Ashton and reilly all have bonus cushion that doesn't need to be counted (but is under Capgeek)

If preseason didn't have any effect, they wouldn't play 8 preseason games.
Penqueens only played 6 total.
I guess someone sees some value in it, other than revenue.

Getting regulars in shape under semi game like conditions, try outs for the youngsters and others who are on the cusp. They can't just jump right from the golf course to the regular season.
