I am also in Alberta and hate that Leafs games never seem to be on TV unless its HNIC. I also have telus TV (which blows i think). How are you planning on watching Leafs games? Fork out the $200 for centre ice? I cant see another option
- TonkaPhaneuf

I always get th NHL center ice package yeah it's expensive but my days I want to be able to relax and watch the games.

Both sides acknowledged the cap is artificially high this year due to it being set during the CBA. Next year it will be based on 50% of the revenues. They said it would be approx. 60 million this year if it had been set on revenues. So basically that means league revenues around 3.6 billion. For it to go up to 70 million league revenues would need to be in the 4.2 billion range. That's a 17% increase. The leagues projections are that the outdoor games will add about 180 million. That would bring revenues to 3.78 billion. where does the other 420 million increase come from? There have been some ticket increases in some markets. I see revenue next year coming in around 3.8-3.85 billion. Which would be a cap round 64-65 million.

Again. I've seen no one show where the other money is coming from?

JMO.

- Iggysbff

thing about the cap is that the calculation isn't that simple. when you split the revenue 50-50, then divide by 30, you're only getting the cap midpoint.

He can't
- MapleLeafs90

I believe he outscored phaneuf last season, makes less dumb mistakes, actually hits the net and doesn't use his size enough. If he continues to improves this year, he could easily replace phaneuf as a number one dman who shouldn't be a number one dman.

i'll bet the cap is 70 next year. still gonna be damn tight for the leafs tho
- Dozzer

CAP went down approximately 6M or 10%, given the full season, the focus generated by the Olympics, the revenue from the many outdoor/special games...

CAP's going to go up to at least where is was (roughly 70) and possibly as high as 72-73.

Not an unreasonable number. Then apply an estimated (conservative) 5% growth rate and you have 2014-2015 projected revenue of $4B as your starting point for the salary cap.

I understand $4B is the number to get $70M in upper cap limit.

- doinktheclown

If you take 3.6 billion. Increase by 5 % then add 180 mill (for the outdoor games) that gets you to 3.96 billion. Still only 67 million Cap number. And I happen to believe that's generous. Sportsnet projection was about this much.

actually your 3.6 is high

last year.. according to forbes.. revenue was 3.374 billion.

50% of this is 1.687 billion / 30 teams = 56.234

so.. your argument stands to this point.. but what you are not accounting for is that the league lost 1020 games last year, the outdoor classic, and the all star game

now.. revenue comes from a variet of places but lets say 60% can be attested to a game by game basis. therefore.. if the league made 3.374 billion x 0.6 = 2.0244 billion

divide that by number of games played per team (48) = 0.042175 billion

thats your per game league wide so multiply it over a full 82 game schedule = 3.45835 billion.

then add the 40% back in we took off in the first place ... therefore
3.45835 + 1.3496 = 4.80795 billion

not including all star game and outdoor classic

you are forgetting that the projections these people are making are based on a shortened season.. not a full 82.. on a game by game basis.. they've been higher than they've ever been

i am aware i am probably a lil high.. but its not unreasonable to assume the cap will be between 70 and 80million

Exactly why the arguement to get rid of Dion is stupid. We don't even have someone to give him a break from playing stupid mins how the (frank) are we going to replace him.

that about covers it... although Phaneuf is much more proven at the defensive side of the game, having played pretty welll most nights last season against the toughest to defend players. Franson hasn't had to do that yet.

the cap didn't go down organically. it's an artificial number, and it's inflated at that. would be even lower based on revenues.
