I was told Rielly would take this path

2013-2014 - Leafs, Calder Trophy
2014-201 - First NHL All-Star Appearance.
2015-2016 - Norris Winner

- Cooshie

probably pretty accurate....I question the Calder though...that will have to go to one of Buffalos several superrookies

Some of you like to make poop up. While most are good at discussing....

The point about where the cap will end up is not locked in stone. You don't know. I don't know. But from most real sources the cap will not be where a lot of fans are saying it will be.

- Iggysbff

Everything I d read has said it's going up, some say close to 70m. Haven't seen anything remotely close to what you say. The facts point to it going up.

I haven't seen anything you've said in the subject as acurate

i would not be shocked at all to see him moved at the deadline to a team who thinks they are a top d-man away from being competitive.

he's a good d-man.. but not as good as what kind of money he will command.

- Dozzer

We will be trying to lock down a top 4 position at that time, highly doubt we will be trading him then. Have faith this year, Carlyle's gonna have this team rocking!

Was there any none Leaf fan who said that both Franson and Kadri would sign? I don't know, I don't live on here like some so maybe I missed it. Most to all said Leafs will be trading one of them (most likely Franson) or lose Franson to offer sheet. It was repeated on here none stop. Next year will be tight too but most key pieces will be retained.....I am just not sure about Phanuef, he is the one guy that I could see being gone - maybe as early as this season. Unlike some, I think he is important to the Leafs but at 7mill, not that important.

I don't think they can let Phaneuf walk without a returning player. It goes against the game plan so far from what I see IMO.

where do you think it will land.. i dont think 70million is unreasonable

you realize just how much money the NHL is going to make on the wings leafs outdoor game alone?

the cap is going up by a few mill .. its really not unreasonable to think so

- Dozzer

Both sides acknowledged the cap is artificially high this year due to it being set during the CBA. Next year it will be based on 50% of the revenues. They said it would be approx. 60 million this year if it had been set on revenues. So basically that means league revenues around 3.6 billion. For it to go up to 70 million league revenues would need to be in the 4.2 billion range. That's a 17% increase. The leagues projections are that the outdoor games will add about 180 million. That would bring revenues to 3.78 billion. where does the other 420 million increase come from? There have been some ticket increases in some markets. I see revenue next year coming in around 3.8-3.85 billion. Which would be a cap round 64-65 million.

Again. I've seen no one show where the other money is coming from?

Putting Liles on waivers and hoping someone takes him off their hands is Nonis's only out...

I know Leaf fans think he did well but he is just prolonging the agony. Franson got exactly what he wanted and that was to be arbitration eligible next year. I think many Leaf fans and others are going to be sorely disappointed when the Cap does not go up significantly next year and the Leafs Cap hell will remain with so many players to sign.

Let the hatred and telling me Im wrong begin....

- Iggysbff

Meh. Let Dion walk, re-sign Franson, Gards, and Phil, bring Morgan up, and then deal with the rest.

Doesn't seem too difficult.

Let our best defenseman and captain just walk? That is a horrible idea.

So you think revenue will be up 17% in one year? That is what it would take to get to 70 million. I know most cant calculate and do math...but the outdoor games project to add 180 mill....so even still not even close to getting to 70 mill...

We'll all just have to wait and see but my bet is we see 64-65 mill next season.

- Iggysbff

As I understand the cap calculation for 2014-2015:

1) Finalize 2013-2014 revenue (for which somewhat accurate league projections must already exist based on tv contracts, current ticket sales, etc)

2) Estimate Revenue Growth Rate for 2014-2015 (I believe 7% was the average rate during the last CBA)

3) Calculate estimated 2014-2015 revenues and salary cap (including estimated revenue growth).

3-year 7% annualized growth from 2011-2012 should get it there. Very reasonabe expectation.

Not sure were 17% comes from over 1 year. What ‘s your starting revenue/year?

Who replaces Dion?

We HOPE Franson can, Gardiner is great offensive D, but cant play against other team best

He is the best D we had since Salming

Dont worry he will probably just wander around for a bit then come back, we just need to wipe the drool off his chin and then we can trade him.

Yeah...I'm not buying it either. He's as good as here next year. See what this year brings with some decent support for him. Heck..even Bernier's puck handling will help Dion (and the rest).

We just get everyone signed, so lets start worrying about next years cap issues. No one can call us procrastinators.
