What if they don't really have a nickname? Do they have to make up really lame ones for the bench players? some of the nicknames for the mma guys no one has heard of are terrible.

I am surprised they got Franson signed for 2 million. But the one year is huge. Gotta imagine the Leafs are ready to walk away from Dion if they have to.

NHL nicknames are very simple.

Take the first syllable of the guy's last name, and tack on -zie or -zer.

Voila! Instant nickname.

If Phaneuf plays anything like he did last year (minutes/production) theres about zero chance he resigns with Toronto for less than 6 per.
