Putting Liles on waivers and hoping someone takes him off their hands is Nonis's only out...
I know Leaf fans think he did well but he is just prolonging the agony. Franson got exactly what he wanted and that was to be arbitration eligible next year. I think many Leaf fans and others are going to be sorely disappointed when the Cap does not go up significantly next year and the Leafs Cap hell will remain with so many players to sign.
Let the hatred and telling me Im wrong begin.... - Iggysbff
The Leafs didn't exactly get a raw deal here. 2 million for Franson is a steal.
And the cap is definitely going up.

So you think revenue will be up 17% in one year? That is what it would take to get to 70 million. I know most cant calculate and do math...but the outdoor games project to add 180 mill....so even still not even close to getting to 70 mill...
We'll all just have to wait and see but my bet is we see 64-65 mill next season. - Iggysbff
The teams that are in cap trouble is a team like Ottawa. Not the Leafs. Everyone says the cap is going up next year, just like it did every year in the last CBA. Many think it will be 80 million in only 3 years. |

Some of you like to make poop up. While most are good at discussing....
The point about where the cap will end up is not locked in stone. You don't know. I don't know. But from most real sources the cap will not be where a lot of fans are saying it will be. - Iggysbff
Like who? We're all hearing it is going up. |

Both sides acknowledged the cap is artificially high this year due to it being set during the CBA. Next year it will be based on 50% of the revenues. They said it would be approx. 60 million this year if it had been set on revenues. So basically that means league revenues around 3.6 billion. For it to go up to 70 million league revenues would need to be in the 4.2 billion range. That's a 17% increase. The leagues projections are that the outdoor games will add about 180 million. That would bring revenues to 3.78 billion. where does the other 420 million increase come from? There have been some ticket increases in some markets. I see revenue next year coming in around 3.8-3.85 billion. Which would be a cap round 64-65 million.
Again. I've seen no one show where the other money is coming from?
JMO. - Iggysbff
Uh, you mean artificially low, right? The cap dropped heavily based on a CBA agreement. It isn't high at all. It had never previously dropped ever. |

In all fairness, whatever the difference in what it is now and what it will be would essentially and potentially be divied up for raises between Reimer, Phaneuf?, Kessel, Franson, Colborne, and Kulemin. |

Some of those guys will be gone and cheaper options will be found. Like how Raymond is now a much cheaper Macarthur.
Phaneuf and Kessel combined are looking at only 3 million in raises.
I'm not so sure we'll see a 2 goalie system next season either.
The real team in trouble is Ottawa. Look at how tiny their budget is, even with the much smaller cap. |

BTW, anyone notice how the haters that were completely wrong about both Kadri and Franson being resigned, are now putting their focus on next year and talking about how the Leafs will lose everyone?
The Leafs are always doomed. |

1st of all Gunn is not the #1 if Phaneuf leaves. He's a PMD helper - Franson/Gardiner/Rielly would be #1 - Garnie
