74.5? That seems incredibly high, I think you're missing something.

(frank)ing bedmas. (frank)ed up my brackets. any event, still +$70M

($3.8B 2013-2014 Revenue*50%- $100M Benefits )/30 teams*5% Growth *15% Upper Limit = $72.4M Cap for 2014-2015.

i don't think his 5% should be in there. that's a few million per team. (but i could be wrong there.) and as for the $100 million... he's got it being split but it comes strictly from the players' share.

This is the piece everyone seems to be missing.

Preliminary HRR for the prior League Year multiplied by fifty (50) percent (the
Applicable Percentage), minus [-] Projected Benefits), divided [/] by the number of Clubs
then playing in the NHL (e.g., 30), shall equal [=] the Midpoint of the Payroll Range
(which figure shall be considered the Midpoint only for purposes of calculating the
Adjusted Midpoint; all references to the "Midpoint" thereafter shall mean the "Adjusted
Midpoint"), which shall be adjusted upward by a factor of five (5) percent in each League
Year
(yielding the Adjusted Midpoint, which shall then become the Midpoint of the
Payroll Range) unless or until either party to this Agreement proposes a different growth
factor based on actual revenue experience and/or projections

A number that's been floating around in here today.

Seems reasonably attainable IMO.

If that happens, the Leafs will have around $11 million more cap room next year, when you add in the 2.5 blocked by buyouts and salary transfers this year. That's more than enough to re sign all of their guys.

Yeah, and while everybody is focusing on the upper cap, those floor numbers will be giving the owners of teams like the Coyotes ulcers.

AGREED. Leafs have ALOT of UFA's next season. What occurs with all that next summer will be SOLEY dependant on their performances this season. WHo they keep, how much the players re-sign for. So let's drop the puck OCT 1st & let's see how it all plays out. Nothing is going to be determined now.

All depends how the cash strapped markets do this year imo detroit is a big one cant see them being in the usual top ten in profits with the city itself being broke i believe 3.3 to 3.5 is more achievable its public knowledge that 10 to 15 teams were bleeding money for the years under the old cba i cant see the owners allowing the cap to jump up 6.5 or more every year with so many of them looking around for 2nd or 3rd investers to keep them afloat

Who knows, in 5 years a contract like clarkson (low salary, high cap hit) may be very appealing to a team like that.

That makes more sense! I would be more than okay with that, we should have the assets to keep all of our assets for as long as we want them

Strike Back at 9 pm on HBO.

Damien Scott tactical checklist:

Commander kidnapped, assassin trying to kill me, IRA back in business, terrorist chemical weapons attack imminent in Europe.

Do I:

A: Re group with my team and formulate a plan to deal with the varied threats
B: Call the SAS
C: Get Some

So let's the cap is exactly 70, maybe that's high, maybe it's low. We need to resign

Phaneuf, Kessel, Franson, Gardiner, Reimer, Bolland, Kulemin, McClement, Raymond?, Fraser and Ranger.

Should be doable, might have to let one asset walk or trade them. We have about 36 to between them too if the cap is 70.

Phaneuf- 6 or trade
Kessel- 8 (worst case scenario)
Franson- 4.5
Gardiner-3
Reimer-3
Bolland-4
Kulemin-3.5
McClement-3
Raymond-3
Fraser-2
Ranger-2

That's 42, but I was pretty generous with a lot of those guys, still though it's hard to imagine a scenario where we get all those guys without a move. If we free up Liles contracts somehow and maybe move one of our cheap guys we will be good.

Much more to it than any of us are putting into it. Also the compliance buyouts come from the players share of hrr. Also last year there were some things that the league was paid for in full even though they had a shortened season. So saying its 75% of the revenue from 60% of the games is false.

So none of us will know for sure. I just don't believe we'll see anything over 67. If we do I'll gladly admit I was wrong.

I've been saying it for over a year now that regardless of the Leafs cap situation it just doesn't make practical sense to keep Dion at anything close to what he'll get on the market.

This team has options long-term on D, there's no reason breaking the bank for a guy who, while decent, simply hasn't been the Norris material he used to be.
