I never considered him one till I actually got a close look at him. I can tell you with all honesty I was Irate when we traded the 9th pick for him but I have gotten over that very fast !

I am glad you think it is funny Cory is the real deal though. We will still struggle to score goals but it will be a lot harder for the rest of the teams to score on us this year then it was last year!
- blizzzard

About mid way through this year your going to wish 2 things happened.

1) your going to wish Lou gave up the 29th overall pick in 2012 instead of what is likely to be a top 10 pick in 2014.

2) your going to wish you didn't tade a top 10 pick when losing Kovalchuk for Cory Schneider.

And don't tell me Lou didn't know about Kovalchuk. Kovy told Lou way before the draft this was going to happen. He just didn't make it official until after.

Why? They aren't a defensive stiffling team. Its not like they were facing our best during this pre-season.
- youarewrong

I think this year they will be.The additions of raymond, bolland, and clarkson add a grinding mentality to the foward corp, also think they have a very solid top 6,paul ranger has looked good and they just resigned franson.Bernier is a big upgrade compared to scrivens and will probably be their starter.Randy carlyle is definately a defensive minded coach.BTW i hate the leafs but unfortunately i like what they did this off season

I just wish Lavi would modify his fore check and breakout. Give the d more options for their outlet passes instead of forcing them to throw bombs all the time.

I like the aggressiveness, but for God sake....if they are NOT doing what you tell them to do, hold them accountable. As long as this isn't happening we can only assume they are playing like you tell them to.

Bill out of curiosity, how is Nichushkin doing in Dallas? Bet he would have looked good in Jersey.

Cory Schneider might will us into the playoffs all on his own I know it is pre season but he is going to make a case for top 3 goalie in the east with Lundquist being #1 and Rask and Schneider battling for 2nd and 3rd, Anderson might be in there to if he stays healthy !
- blizzzard

Schneider has played well, no doubt. However, this is almost exactly what Canucks fans were saying before he fell apart and lost the starting job last year.

I wasn't watching the draft but when I read the tweet about the trade that they pulled off my first thought was "Crap, here comes another decade of torture."

I wanted Philly to get him or Bernier from LA.

I know it is early to get excited but from what I have seen he hasn't shown any reason yet to say he won't be very good for us. I think most can agree that we have a pretty pathetic group of D on paper but they play the system so well that I would say our D as a whole plays better then Vancouvers. We also have that old guy in Marty who is still capable of winning games ( he might not steal them anymore) but I think we have a good thing going.

We will see. I think you will be in the few that are proven wrong when we are fighting for a spot come final day. Phoenix has made the play offs with less. I am not saying we are a lock we are a bubble team but I don't think for a second we are a bottom 10 team.

Yep, the Devils always impress even if they don't look as good on paper. Most people who will knock the Schneider acquisition do so out of jealousy. We have always had goaltending woes, you are basically our antithesis.
I personally think you are blessed though cuz one of my buddies is a Devil's fan and the universe owes him...

I'm curious to see how teams react to the divisional changes. I think some teams are gonna skate in easy to the play-offs and others are going to have a rude awakening *cough* Caps *cough*.

I was thinking about just that the other day. You guys would be fav's or in the conversation had Hommer pulled that deal his first for Schneider. I mean do you really need the pick ? All you're stars are young so you wont need a prospect to step up for a while and with a goalie like Cory you probably don't need that all star D. You guys would of been a very dangerous team to face. Still can be to. You got the fire power for it.

Here is the issue. Your franchise is Broke. They made a horrible decision in drafting at 29 2 drafts ago. If they had money they would have waited 1 more season and just signed one of the many above average goalies to hit the market, from Miller to Lundquist, to hiller, Halak.... However, since they cant afford to pay UFA prices, and they dont have a pick in 2014, they had to trade the 9th overall for an average goalie that wont break the bank. Your going to kick yourself for not keeping the pick and taking an future perrenial all-star in Nichushkin.

Yea it will be interesting to see how thing play out. I don't know if there has ever been more bubble teams then there possibly is this year. I find after the lock out shortened season a lot of questions have been asked about every team not named Chicago. I mean everyone is going to make the sexy pics like the Rangers and Pens and I don't blame them but there are a lot of teams that have a chance of making it but if you picked them to you would take a ton of heat.

Not in this division. Maybe in another division you guys make it, but you wont be playing the Flyers every game. You know how to play us and win.... It makes your team look much better now then they really are. Just like everyone on here has good from excited to depressed in 3 days.

A lot of talk about coaching in here. Who do you guys want to replace Lavy ? is there even much out there right now in terms of available coaches ? A guy like Boucher or maybe a softer guy like Kruger ?
- blizzzard

Paul Maurice. I think he'd be an excellent fit for this group, and he's cooling his heels on NHL Network right now.

Nah, fire Laviolette and bring Murray in. A guy that has been fired everywhere he has been, and has worked magic with the Phantoms. Problem solved.
- PLindbergh31

Name a Coach that hasn't been fired, including Laviolette? And I'll tell you they haven't been coaching very long. And I'll bet at some point he'll be fired by the Flyers. How are you coming to a conclusion on what Murray has done with the Phantoms? Win/loss record? I know what Murray did for the LA Kings. He built the foundation that they won on.
