Yes, Boucher sure played out of his mind in game 1. I mean that...what the hell was going on in his mind?

The Leighton/Boosh tandem was lightning in a bottle for about February through Game 4 of the Montreal series. After that, they both came crashing back down to Earth. Give them any of the other goalies I listed, and they win that Cup.

- jmatchett383

au contraire...

Leighton single handedly kept them in a few games early on, only to wither out as the game wore on. I forget which game it was that he literally had to make about 8 game changing saves in the first period alone. Was he great in that series... not at all.. But it was the team in front of him that was the real problem. The same problem they have had for a few years now.

Some will say Caroline did it in 06, but that team only scored 19 goals in 7 games.. 2.7 goals per game is hardly "run and gun"

Do Chicago and Pittsburgh not play run and gun?

If you take a franchise d-man off any coach's roster of course the team won't be as good.
- PLindbergh31

the only thing for me re the coach is that the issue is the breakout and that's mostly on the coach to design his system to match his personnel. i hope we see a change starting Wed nite.

chicago no.....pitt yes and look where that has gotten them in the last 3 seasons. The pitt team that won had a much better defense than they have now.

The Penguins may, but look at how well that has fared them.. But to suggest that the Hawks play run and gun is not even remotely accurate.. They are one of the better two way teams in the NHL (if not the best).

Has he signed anywhere yet? I'll offer him 1 year at 2 millon. I think that's fair.

Pittsburgh won the Cup in 2009. Ancient times indeed.

Nah, fire Laviolette and bring Murray in. A guy that has been fired everywhere he has been, and has worked magic with the Phantoms. Problem solved.
- PLindbergh31

What you don't get is that Murray specializes in teaching teams how to play team D and take personal accountability (or they lose ice time, and he doesn't care who the player is). He prepares teams and players to win, even if it's the next coach who finishes the job and gets the credit.

Many ex-Murray players have said, in retrospect, they learned more from him than any coach they played for.

In all seriousness Bill...

How much of that LA Kings cup can Murray (in his heart) take credit for. That team was defensively magnificent.

That team wasnt a run and gun team. That team was a very solid two way squad. That cup team allowed 2.6 goals per game in their run.

The team has too many breakdowns that create transitional chances that wind up in their own net, struggles to deal with patient and defensively disciplined opponents, lacks puck support and spends too much time trying to get out of its own end of the ice. It's the kind of hockey played by non-playoff worthy teams -- and that's what the Flyers are right now until they prove otherwise.

the breakout that the kings used to beat the NJ forecheck in the finals was authored by murray and i haven't seen better in recent memory. lots of forward responsibility...

Steve Mason s... He's been OK in the preseason -- far from great, not glaringly bad -- but Ray Emery has easily been the better of the two. I would be surprised if Emery is not the team's opening night starter against Toronto next Wednesday.
- Bill Meltzer

That's about how I expect it to go for the season. Good luck, bros.
