Another bright spot of the preseason:
We make think that we're having a poopty preseason, but NYR and NYI are having pooptier ones

Team is relatively healthy which is a top organizational goal in Pre-season. Not judging any preseason roster moves until after the opening roster and cap situation are announced. It's going to be interesting.

Lets not get too devils advocate.

However this team had the option to trade for Schneider or Bernier. They chose not to.

Not saying those would have been better options, but I expect no miracles coming from between the pipes. Without Pronger to solidify that d-core, you get what you get.

- flyer_nutter

I've got to agree with you. Really wanted Bernier and would have been ok moving Read to get him. Whatever, I've tried to calm down and remember it's preseason. But look at the recent history of teams that have been bad in preseason and you'll see those teams have suffered through poor seasons.

So how come Lava can't realize this.
- LJF

That's a great question. He didn't realize it in Carolina, either. He won the Stanley Cup, then didn't make the playoffs the next three years, as Laviolette clung to his preferred method of play despite personnel changes.

Trouble is, if the rumors are true, LA didn't want Read.

Panaccio is tweeting about a rumor that would see the Flyers dealing with the Avalanche. He mentioned a Meszaros for John Mitchell swap.

I think I'd jump at that, even though Mitchell's best position is center. He's a solid two way player and did a decent job playing with Matt Duchene last season.

Interesting. I'd do that too. What's the cap hit?

You mean 2 teams need to agree to a trade? A sticky little detail sometimes missed in this room.....

Thanks. So in essence, I see it as a salary dump. You know what that means.. a 2nd rounder would go with Mesz, but that's what it will take to get cap compliant.

I guess this makes sense, it looks to me like the team is not happy with either of Laughton or Raffl. I can see us acquiring a forward for Mesz and a pick.

That hit last night that dazed Grossmann just reminded me how fragile our d can be and quickly trading any of the d could cause a problem. They could end up with 6-7 d men again like last year.

I am more worried about the play of the team so far, than how Homer gets compliant. Homer's assembled a solid roster and it looks like Lavy can't get them to play. We can't start the reg season 6 and 14.

Not necessarily. Colorado's blue line situation makes the Flyers look great. They need defensemen, badly, even a risky one like Meszaros.

Raffl needs more time on the rink and Laughton is only 19. I don't get he can't play for the Phantoms. Please explain. Because his age he can play in the NHL, but not with the Phantoms it makes no sense. Do I have that wrong?

Yes, but a hit to the head dazed him. He played the whole game, but let's hope today he is ok.

Ok, wasn't aware of that. If we do trade Mesz, does that mean we hand onto Gill as the 7th or go with Gervais?

The rule has to do with the CHL keeping players that draw fans.

If Laughton was a NCAA player, he could play in the AHL. But since he's a CHL player, he can't play in the AHL until age 20.

Its a stupid rule. Especially for those who have already had three years of juniors. They are essentially punishing a player for starting too early.

They might. Holmgren seems to have a fascination with carrying an old, slow big 7th defenseman.
