If you take a franchise d-man off any coach's roster of course the team won't be as good. - PLindbergh31
Absolutely correct! So if I am a coach, and I have to rely heavily on an ELITE level guy to make a system work.. I think I might wanna rethink some things..
Last year we were rolling with (basically) an AHL defense, and it wasnt till the last month of the season that certain things changed.. Im giving him two months to prove that he has the ability to coach this team within his system and tactics.. If they dont succeed, neither will he. |

Nah, fire Laviolette and bring Murray in. A guy that has been fired everywhere he has been, and has worked magic with the Phantoms. Problem solved. - PLindbergh31
id rather have murray teaching these guys how to play sound two way hockey than the run and gun style that lavy employs....heres a question...when was the last time a run and gun style team won the cup?
AS for murray in the AHL....that team is made up of mostly third line ahl players... |

Like I said before.. Lets just go out and get Mike Keenan.. he won a cup. But Barry Trotz would be a poopty coach to add... ya know.. cause he never won a cup.
The point is, that team was one shootout goal away from not making the playoffs. They had to battle back from a 3-0 series deficit, and then had the same issues they are having today, plague them in the Chicago series...
Since we lost to Chicago.. here is the losing teams GAA for the series..
Flyers-4.16
Nucks-3.2
Devils-2.6
Bruins-2.83
Even in that series, our inability to play sound two way hockey plagued us. We are a run and gun team. - jak521
If I remember Correctly the hawks GAA in that series was not exactly stellar either.... |

I don't have an issue with that. When discussing firing someone, you have to weigh what the alternatives are. |

I'm not saying in time these guys won't be NHL players. My point was none of them have done anything to make an NHL roster. They all can use more time getting acclimated. That time shouldn't be spent at the NHL level. - PLindbergh31
if we have the cap space, i'd pick up ryan jones. definitely a more valuable EDM castoff than velveeta... |

Some will say Caroline did it in 06, but that team only scored 19 goals in 7 games.. 2.7 goals per game is hardly "run and gun" |

Maybe Murray isn't the answer, but I can't bear the thought of watching another Devils game with Lavi as coach where the Flyers spend half the game struggling just to clear their zone. |

The funny thing about that, is that with out Leighton and Boosh playing out of their minds, it would have, and should have, been way worse. They were the least of the Flyers problems in that series. What happened was that the Flyers played RUN&GUN hockey (like they tend to do) and it killed them. - jak521
Yes, Boucher sure played out of his mind in game 1. I mean that...what the hell was going on in his mind?
The Leighton/Boosh tandem was lightning in a bottle for about February through Game 4 of the Montreal series. After that, they both came crashing back down to Earth. Give them any of the other goalies I listed, and they win that Cup. |

Bring murray as the teacher and teach these guys responsible hockey...they cant even get the basics right...then hire a new coach for next season |

Cap space isn't an issue! They can spend like drunken sailors. |

RE: Murray and the AHL.
I'm pretty sure the point has been made here that the Flyers have now taken the philosophy of looking at the Phantoms as a developmental entity and not a team they want to stock with AHL vets simply to win a Calder trophy.
This probably would piss me off if I purchased Phantoms season tickets, with the expectation of seeing a winner. |

So 3 coaches in less than one calendar year? They only go through goaltenders at that rate. |

He's yet to play his first NHL game. What is the expectation? He's an undrafted UFA. Just need him to become a solid player, and he's shown flashes of that ability. - MJL
i wish him well. maybe he'll be another nodl, who also showed flashes. |

If you're going to trade B Schenn and Meszaros, it better be for a quality puck moving defenseman. The Flyers don't need another top line Winger. - MJL
Either would be fine...but what quality puck mover do you get for those players? Yandle? Doubtful.

I think Raffle has absolutely earned a roster spot. For a player who is an NHL rookie, and is playing in the small rink of the NA game for the first time, he's shown a lot of promise. He's a player that is going to need some adjustment time. - MJL
Out of the 3 he earned this spot. But you cant tell me Gagne wouldnt be better. |

Hence the "RUN AND GUN". Look at some of the series we have been in as Lava with as our coach. Starting with that cup Final in which all but 1 (!) game had a combined 7+ goals scored.
Next year.. vs the Sabres it goes to 7 games.. 4 of those seven had 7+ goals scored (one had 6).
The other 3 EC series had a combined 4 games that saw 7 or more goals scored.
Do we even need to start talking about the following year with the Pens?

Exactly i dont mind the phantoms for what they are....Someone brought up the point that murray was a poopty coach and too look at his ahl record. that ahl team has no prospects of any worth on it last year. |

I would have taken Gagne back at 1 year $1 million like Raymond signed for in Toronto. |
