As long as the new coach preaches a strong two-way, physical system, I'm happy with him. Our team is built to properly succeed with that kind of system. Lots of grit, lots of two-way, diverse guys. Some speed sprinkled in. We have the pieces, we just need the system. - JAKEw1234
The top Coaches in today's game stress the defensive side of the puck. They instill a system of play that pressures the puck all over the ice, not just deep in the offensive zone on the forecheck. They instill a system where the team moves as a 5 man unit from deep into the defensive zone, to the neutral zone, to the offensive zone, and then back again. They instill a system that supports the puck all over the ice. Forwards come back deep to support defenseman. Forwards are on the defensive side of the puck, to prevent odd man rushes and easy zone entries for the opposition. Hardly ever a "free skate" for the opposition. They play solidly in their own end. Forwards come back deep for high percentage outlet passes to alleviate forecheck pressure from the opposition. They play as a team all over the ice. And it's not automatic. Player have to execute. But the Coach sets the foundation, and won't except anything but responsible play. And I'm not talking about a trap, or anything like that. I'm talking about a puck pressure system, all over the ice. Offensively and defensively.

If a game is televised locally, it's blacked out on Center Ice. - Jsaquella
Yeah I remember now ... it has been a couple of years since I have had Center Ice. I use Gamecenter Live now and an IP blocker.
Now if only they would hurry up and update the app for the PS3! |

I only wanted Murray as an interim last year. I did not and do not view him as a long term alternative.
Had they made the move last season, they could have had a guy like Boucher, Tortorella or Alain Vigneault, who has had NHL success, or tapped into a promising AHL guy, such as Dallas Eakins, Marc French or John Hynes. There's also guys who have had great success in juniors, like Steve Spott. Who knows, maybe they could have made a nice offer to lure Dave Tippett from Phoenix with the uncertainty of their situation.
I don't know if those guys would be as good, better or worse than Laviolette. I just know that in the pas few years, the Flyers have consistently been dominated by the Devils and Rangers, and have had a lot of issues with teams that play a smart, disciplined and hard working forecheck and trap game. They have never really made an effective adjustment, and that's not all on Laviolette, but a lot of it is. - Jsaquella
Very fair. I saw you were high on Spott and Eakins last year. Turned out they both got jobs. I like Laviolette, I'm starting to get frustrated like most everyone else that he seems to set in his ways to make adjustments. He knows his job is on the line so we shall see what happens this year. I think the roster he's been given has some holes, but the cupboards aren't bare by any means.

Could be another defenseman that is traded. - MJL
That is the only rational explanation for the continued presence of the Battleship Gill.
Gill perhaps becomes the emergency 7th guy and they stash Gervais in ADK? Provided that they can, in fact, do that with Gervais. |

I like Laviolette, too...My preference is for him to make the adjustments, beat the poop out of the Rangers and Devils, win the Stanley Cup and make me look like a moron for questioning him.
It's just frustrating to see the 2012 playoffs recur in the 2013-14 pre-season. |

I agree, I'm not even going to watch tonight online. I'm just trying to pick an OHL game. |

Funny story... 2 years ago at Philly/buf game I saw Coates at steakhouse here, as I was leaving I yell out "coatzeeeeeee" then at game next night I'm going up escalator and he is going down and I yell "coatzeeeee" then after 1st period interview he comes out to the bench right by me and I yell "coatzeeee" then I was at philly/buf game in philly, had seats about 8 rows up right next to zamboni entrance, (got pic with Lauren hart) and he was doing pregame stuff for comcast and I start yelling "coatzeeeee" after camera goes off he turns and says to me "hey, buffalo guy" we started laughing. He probably went to security and said watch that guy I think he might be a stalker. - SMS4016

I'm open to him staying, in fact I'm not even overly worried...just concerned at this point.
It's preseason, just troubled by the "lather, rinse, repeat" aspect of it. |

Makes sense. If he's still a little sore, why play him in a meaningless game. Let him rest up for Wednesday. |

Yeah. I know. That's probably all it is. At least, I hope that's all it is -- I saw some of you guys joking about it a couple of days ago, and I laughed. But at the same time, as one who read in amazement how Eric Lindros nearly died in a bathtub and discovered that Turner Stevenson's left leg was shorter than his right leg -- after playing in the NHL for six years or so -- I've long since learned that Flyers injuries are never like other injuries. |

That's my lone concern...I liked the adjustments he made last year after the injury deluge...I wish he would just recognize he doesn't have the horses to make the go-go system work |

How do you not say that after this preseason? This team is soft and irresponsible. |
