Raffl to the Phantoms.....guess laughton is getting at least the first 9 games
- nastyflyergirl

Might as well. If he shines, he can stick. If he looks pedestrian, send him back to junior and call Raffl (or someone else) up to replace him. Smartest move.

Raffl to ADK per the Flyers Twitter feed

So, does this mean that Laughton gets the nod, or could there be a player that is on PTO with another team that could get a 1yr contract?

That wouldn't be the worst thing, as far as I'm concerned -- to me, I think it's fairly obvious that 3LW is something that the Flyers can't be comfortable with.

And before anybody jumps down my throat, the reason the Flyers can't be comfortable with it is because they tried to bring Daniel Cleary in, what, 16 days ago.

Or Vanderbeek gets an NHL contract.

I'm confused. What's so bad about a Talbot/Couturier/Read 3rd line? To me, this battle is about the 4th line.

yeah no harm in giving him the 9 games. wonder if this means VandeVelde made the team and will get a contract or if he is being cut later. I liked Raffl better than him but what do I know. There should be some decent competition for the first callup between Raffl, Cousins, McGinn, etc. never a bad thing

I don't think VV will make the team. I think they'll keep Laughton up for now, and re-evaluate after or during the nine games.

Besides, this moves gets them back on track towards having 4 lines of natural centers

I'm with you, but apparently Talbot's slotted for the 4th line.

Too big and slow for the "new nhl".

So lets get some talent, so we can keep up!

Ohhh poop now we are too small, and dont have enough grit.

Coach is too hard on the young guns? Damn lets bring in Stevens!

Ohh wait he is too soft? Lets bring in Lava, and a more aggressive system.

(frank), is the core not what we thought when we gave them the keys to the city?

Lets trade them! Bryzgalov fiasco, and now we want to switch identity again and turn back into defense.

This is turning into a (frank)ing joke. The team plays just how the whole thing is run, with no consistency and direction.

I think the thing is that Maxime Talbot has never scored enough to be a third-liner, even though he brings other things to the table -- and those things are great. I'm not criticizing him as a player and saying he doesn't need to be here. He's certainly effective on the penalty kill and defensively, can skate and sticks his nose into the dirty areas.

But you can't count on offense from him.

That's not a crime or a curse, being a fourth-liner. Ian Laperriere played on the fourth line for the Flyers, and brought similar attributes. But that's how Pittsburgh played him and saw him, and I think the Flyers, when they reached out to Cleary, were acknowledging that.

Laughable isnt it.

Whats funnier, is that its essentially all true. Ive stopped being suprised as to how this team performs. Its damn right predictable.

I agree that Talbot is not the ideal third liner. But he's also better than your typical 4th liner.

When guys like VandeVelde and Raffl are your competition, Talbot on the 3rd line makes the most sense.

This is considering the fact that the Flyers want to keep Laughton at center.

Okay. But I'm not giving an inferior player more playing time just because he's bigger.

I agree with that, but man...I don't know that the Flyers don't need a DIFFERENT player, one who isn't already here.

I know its only preseason and all, but watching these games and seeing the exact same issues no matter who is in the lineup gives me pause. I don't think they are just going to magically flip a switch and start playing the right way.

I'm just worried that after one period of watching botched home run passes, odd man rushes, failure to sustain a fore check, no defensive presence in the neutral zone, and forwards not helping out defensively, I am going to throw a brick through my TV.

I cant afford a new TV right now, I just CANT!

Raffl has ABSOLUTELY done enough to make the roster.
