Well Lou knew at the time of the Draft Kovalchuk was leaving. Personally I would have taken Nichushkin at 9 then trade up in the 2nd to get Fucale or at worst Comrie or Jarry. Then I would see what I could do to get Miller, Hiller, Halak, Lundquist, etc... either at the TDL or in UFA. Heck they could even have signed Bryz for a year while they still have Marty.
Completely mismanaged IMO. - youarewrong
It's not mismanaging, it's believing Schneider was a better player to get than what teu could have for the 9th pick. Nichushkin could end up being a busy and missing out on ufa goalies. You also don't know if you are going to get one of those goalies in the draft. You dot know how either will work out so I don't see how you could call it mismanaging. You can disagree and think otherwise but I don't think it can be consider mismanaging. |

Perhaps then they need to get players that can play his system. Maybe Holmgren should be put to the fire, not Lavy. He's not the one signing these players. Just food for thought.......... - hockeylover
Just fire both and offer Mike Milbury both positions... that should be fun. |

I think it is very debatable who is better between Miller and Schneider and he is certainly better then Halak and Hiller and Bryz. I wouldn't be shocked if he beat out Miller and Howard for the back up job behind Quick for the Olympics. |

Trading a top 10 pick for a young very good starting goalie is a no brainer to me.. especially when your go to for the past two decades is about to retire.. Who knows what you end up getting with that pick... You are about 90% sure of what you are getting with Schneider.
If Schneider was our #1 would you trade him for that pick? Not unless you had another fantastic option in net. - jak521
There's a lot more value in a top-10 pick, imo. Especially when you have a great defensive team like NJ who could probably plug and play any journeyman goalie and succeed.
Just seems like overkill to give up a top pick, especially when Matteau looks so bad and you don't have one next year, to upgrade the goaltending position. They could have had Bryz or Tim Thomas for a song. |

When did Lou say Kovy told him he was leaving before the draft?
They had a chance to acquire a (somewhat) proven yet young goalie instead of hoping they'd be able to acquire one in the near future or taking a shot on an unproven goalie who's still at least a year away in the draft and took it. They decided not to gamble. - jmatchett383
Lets not forget that Wedgewood isn't the worst goalie prospect out there. The guy still has a high ceiling we just gave him a lot more time to develop by getting Cory. |

Wedgewood's a decent prospect, but I don't think he's anything special. Big year for his progression. |

On that team, Jean-Marc Pelletier could have been an answer. |

I've actually done that before and horn unless really well sealed really throws off the taste. It disrupts the smell of the brew...
So no, not my preferred method.

Still doesn't come close to "YOLO." I hope everyone who ever says "YOLO" goes and commits a hate crime in North Philly. I mean, you only live once, so gotta try everything, right? |

Yea for sure I just wanted to silence the notion that we have no goalie prospects. I know our AHL team has been far from stellar but Kinkaid also stole the job from Frazee so he could pan out as an NHL goalie of some extent. The thing is with taking any high profile goalie like Fucale is they are the hardest position to predict how they will turn out. I mean I remember a certain Canadian team passing on Marty Brodeur to take Trevor Kidd. There is no certainty a guy like Fucale becomes an elite goalie. You look at Al montoya and Rick DiPietro taken 1st overall and where are they now. We know have a certain thing in Schneider and some guys we can Richard around with in Clermount, Kinkaid and Wedgewood |

Brodeur was god awful and I don't think anyone blamed him. They couldn't score. |
