Posting again:
I'm not even going out on a limb here saying that I guarantee Laviolette is gone by November. This current roster obviously can not execute his system. We saw that last year. The Devils and Rangers wrote the book on how to beat this team and I will not be surprised to see other teams adjusting their strategies as well.
It was maddening watching the game the other night knowing that every breakout was going to be some long stretch pass up or across the ice, and if not handled cleanly or missed altogether resulted in the play going the other way. Or a dump in up the side boards that the forwards could not get to because they were skating sideways at the opposing blue line waiting for their under siege dman to get it out of trouble. Then still sending too many forecheckers in even though the opposing team has possession before they even reach the faceoff circle.......chip out the other way...easy out....odd man rush.
I cant count how many times I saw forwards turn tail and zip out of the defensive zone as soon as the dman gained possession only to leave that dman with no viable outlet pass.
Like a broken frakking record.
I am going to lose my mind if I have have to go through what we went through last season again. - MBFlyerfan
Perhaps then they need to get players that can play his system. Maybe Holmgren should be put to the fire, not Lavy. He's not the one signing these players. Just food for thought.......... |

Dude..
Expand his stats from last season over an 82 game span... a full season.. AMAZING
82 games- 82 goals- 0 assits (he must not like other people getting his glory) +164 ((frank)ing two way monster btdubs) and 0 pims.
He will win the Rocket and Lady Byng.. (frank)ing aye. - jak521
And this "top 6" forward cavalier? Dude has done nothing for the flyers the past two years. The list goes on |

But no one in their right mind will be moaning for Jason "The Alphabetically First One" Akeson. - MBFlyerfan
Neither am I -- but again, it's easier to try to misrepresent what was said -- because of a comment another poster made -- than deal with the reality at hand:
Right now, there are plenty of forwards who haven't done much this preseason. Maybe that'll change, maybe it's just preseason, maybe there's valid excuses.
Maybe there's actual issues with production that might not magically disappear come Wednesday night.
But again, keep focusing on what wasn't said. Come Thursday -- especially if things go sour Wednesday night -- we'll see what the topic of conversation is.

I think coaching is more of a concern. Either that or everyone on the team forgot how to score and we need Akeson to teach them |

Whatever, just call him tubby - funmaster18
When he first came over I used to call Baby Schenn chubby... He got dumped on his head one game and his jersey flipped up to show off his nice little belly...
Then he showed up last season ripped, and I had to shut up...

That's why we're replacing him and making Laughton the first line center. |

The move to get Schneider was brilliant. They trade a higher pick, but in return you get a young (semi proven) good goalie who has very high potential to take over the reigns from Marty.
The other option is to wait and see who will still be available and worth the money come off season.
Not too hard of a decision. - jak521
Not sure I would call trading a top-10 pick for a goaltender brilliant.
But, it does put them in a very good position to succeed short-term. |

Trading a top 10 pick for a young very good starting goalie is a no brainer to me.. especially when your go to for the past two decades is about to retire.. Who knows what you end up getting with that pick... You are about 90% sure of what you are getting with Schneider.
If Schneider was our #1 would you trade him for that pick? Not unless you had another fantastic option in net. |

Well Lou knew at the time of the Draft Kovalchuk was leaving. Personally I would have taken Nichushkin at 9 then trade up in the 2nd to get Fucale or at worst Comrie or Jarry. Then I would see what I could do to get Miller, Hiller, Halak, Lundquist, etc... either at the TDL or in UFA. Heck they could even have signed Bryz for a year while they still have Marty.
Completely mismanaged IMO. |

If Schneider was an unproven prospect if lean towards foolish, but we've seen enough of him that if be Ok with that trade. |

Too bad the Cup is awarded to the best team, and not the team that represents the most attractive destination... otherwise Philly and the Rangers would take turns winning it every year.
Honestly, I'd almost prefer it if UFA's didn't clamor to come to the Flyers... would take a lot of potential mistakes off the table for Homer & Co. - Tomahawk

When did Lou say Kovy told him he was leaving before the draft?
They had a chance to acquire a (somewhat) proven yet young goalie instead of hoping they'd be able to acquire one in the near future or taking a shot on an unproven goalie who's still at least a year away in the draft and took it. They decided not to gamble. |
