What kind of holes does he have in his game? Do you think he is going to be as good as the Malkins and Ovechkin's of the league?
- youarewrong

He reminds me thus far of Alexander Semin ca. 2003. Nichushkin will make some undisciplined plays and may be a bit of streaky player (at least in his early seasons) but the talent level is very high.

Because of problems spanning much further than this preseason, problems that go back further than even last season.
- BulliesPhan87

That's fine -- I'm really not interested in fighting this morning.

I'm just looking at simple facts: 12 goals in six preseason games. Again, they've got tonight -- another meaningless game, though the best roster available will likely be dressed tonight -- and then next Wednesday, it's for real.

I guess we'll see. There's been some bright spots, but yeah, I'm concerned about the continued lack of production. There are teams that will get off to good starts this season; right now, it's a little difficult to see the Flyers being one of them.

I'm just not a Schneider fan. Never was. I didn't want the Flyers to go after him either. I remember another goalie that put up good numbers in another a city, then came to philly... and... well....

Schneirder isnt a crappy goalie, but I dont think he will be an all-star. And he wont be top 3 in the conference. Sorry. He just wasn't work the 9th overall pick in such a deep draft.

- youarewrong

Even still the best player who will be drafted since Crosby isn't eligible till next years draft and we will have a first again then and should be as bad as you predict us to be so Ill be a happy guy to go down the path you have painted for the Devils and walk away with MacDavid

I personally agree with him. Akeson is a much better candidate for top line duty than Voracek. That guy practically never scores, where as Akeson is a Goal Per Game player at this point in his career.
- jak521

The argument was that Akeson doesn't get equal consideration (from fans) as Laughton because he wasn't a 1st-round pick, but feel free to misrepresent his position if it tickles your funny bone.

Then why are we talking about firing Peter Laviolette this morning then?

Hey, it's our preseason, too! Need to get back in shape, ready for a long season.

I don't understand why he is saying Schneider is average. I mean he struggled after winning the starting job but finished with a 927 save % and his situation was unlike many other goalies with that goalie saga that was going on. I expect both Lou and Schneider to have great season this year now that that whole thing has ended!
- blizzzard

The move to get Schneider was brilliant. They trade a higher pick, but in return you get a young (semi proven) good goalie who has very high potential to take over the reigns from Marty.

The other option is to wait and see who will still be available and worth the money come off season.

Not too hard of a decision.

None...but you asked "Who wants to play in NJ" and I gave you 3 names of pretty good players who seemed to like it.
- jmatchett383

Neidermayer left.

Really though.... Who have they really signed? When was the last time a top player sought out the devils to sign him. re-signing players excluded? I mean they are almost as bad as the Islanders at getting people to play for them.

Don't the Devils have to forfeit their pick for next year?

Maybe it's the Devils who don't believe in overspending in free agency?

Nope. Your forgetting the Bettman factor. Next season Crosby and Malkin and Letang will get Mono and not play all year. Finish 3rd from the bottom, but win the lottery pick. Sorry about that...

Too bad the Cup is awarded to the best team, and not the team that represents the most attractive destination... otherwise Philly and the Rangers would take turns winning it every year.

Honestly, I'd almost prefer it if UFA's didn't clamor to come to the Flyers... would take a lot of potential mistakes off the table for Homer & Co.

I think of all the rising star goalies he is the best right now and perhaps the most proven when you compare him to a guy like Bernier the potential is certainly there but I think you know you are getting more of a for sure thing with Cory then Bernier. I do like that duo of Bernier and Riemer though

Amazing, isn't it?

But let the Flyers score one goal next Wednesday night. Trust me, the moaning will be loud and clear Thursday a.m., with everybody wondering where the goalscoring is.

Well, we should be wondering that now.

His argument was that people were pencilling Laughton in for a spot automatically, which was wrong. People are giving Laughton a fair shot at earning a roster spot, and most people at this point are saying he hasn't done that.

Also, argument was given that Laughton is, so far, a more well-rounded player with fewer holes in his professional game than Akeson. He just kept on beating the "STOP GIVING LAUGHTON AN AUTOMATIC ROSTER SPOT" drum and it got old.

The point is that Laughton is getting plenty of consideration for his role... bottom six center.. If someone wants to mention him as a top 6 candidate and get laughed out of the blog... be my guest.

It is this simple. Akeson, while interesting, is not an NHL top 6 forward at this point. I also dont believe there is that great of a chance that he miraculously becomes a perennial top 6 forward in the future. Can he be a spot duty guy.. probably... but if Akeson is in your top 6 on Oct 2nd.. we got huge problems.

The original post suggests that he goes in the top 6 because other guys "arent scoring". So that is where I fixed the eyes of my post.. and then tickled my funny bone.

This year ! I guess technically the draft is in 2014 but I am calling it this years draft and the draft after that is the MacDavid draft which we will have a first once again.

But no one in their right mind will be moaning for Jason "The Alphabetically First One" Akeson.

Raffle-Laughton-Akeson for the top line. Get these other bums outta here. Hartnell should have been traded 2 thanksivings ago. Don't get me started on glass wrist Giroux or schnitzel.

Probably because they don't throw silly money at every free agent available.

Also, Neidermayer only left so he could go try to win a Cup with his brother. Not like he suddenly said, "Man, I hate playing for the Devils."
