Ott has never played center. Takes faceoffs occasionally, but he's always been a winger. I think it'll be

Vanek-Hodgson-Stafford
Ennis-Grigorenko-Leino
Ott-Larsson-foligno
Scott-Porter-Kaleta

Girgensons gets sent to Rochester

- bsabres716

Ott has played center years ago... He just hasn't in the last 3 to 5 years.

So when someone wants to throw like Colton Orr, Parros, etc you want Marcus/Ott throwing or someone that can throw?
- derekjd

Id be fine with it. They demonstrated last year that they can/will drop mitts.

From hockey fights

25 fights in total

Scott 7
Ott 5
Kaleta 4
Foligno 3
McCormick 2
Weber 2
Regehr 1
Stafford 1

So scott had 28% of our fights...what does that translate to? Double minors for both teams? Teams dont take advantage of other teams players because of guys like Scott. Its the overall "toughness of a team". Guys like Ott, Kaleta, Foligno, Girgensons, Weber, Risto, Zadorov (eventually), and hopefully Myers.

Is Girgensons on the team opening night? What if Tropp was uninjured? I just dont see a need for Scotts spot on the roster. Guys like him, Parros, Orr, etc are novelties.

I have no way of proving it, but IMO, Scott's presence helped in our handling of Boston last year. The Bruins definately seemed less physical playing us.

So you're ok with a second line center/winger being taken out by a 4th liner? Tropp is not NHL ready, his fight showed that (poor decision). You want rookies to fight seasoned NHL fighters, I hope you are never involved with a pro coaching team otherwise someone may get killed.

Scott serves a purpose just like Parros, Orr, Carcillo, Westgarth etc..... They patrol and sometimes control. Yes there are staged fights but at other times they do whats needed at the correct time. Think Scott would have stood there like Gaustad? I think he sent a message when Thorton wanted to test him. Each player has a role, even it is 7 minutes a game or sitting on the bench looking threatening. From those guys you listed, who's afraid of them, I don't think Kessel would have hit any of them with his purse.

I love reading comprehension posts. There's actually a thread that catalogues them all.

Please avoid the personal stuff, thank you.

If you need John Scott in your line up than you are just pretending to be a tough team.

I guess it is best to pretend till our young tough guys develop and we are actually tough . Better than getting manhandled repeatedly by Boston.

He served a purpose last season. Helped us regain some confidence. This year he screws up our 4th line

It seems safe to say that he'll get his 9 game tryout then go back down to London.
- CaptainRivet

idk, i think they will send him down before season starts. I dont see how we have room for him. Just getting the ELC down before he goes back to the juniors.

Zadorov will get the 7 game "look-see" that Junior players are allowed, then he will be sent back to Juniors.

Vanek will be the captain.

Ristolainen will be on this team. Sulzer and Tallinder will not.

- buffalofan19

I like the way you think.

Ott probably should be C based on attitude, Hodgson should be C because he is the elder statesmen of the youth movement (and he's a Center), Vanek should get it because no one else is ready for it and he's the best player on the team who has been here through the worst and best of it.

Hey guys dont want to be a troll here. But I was thinking maybe Hoff being the captain as Vanek may be on his way out? Ohh heck maybe even Foligno and start with a young guy. I don't want to open up a can of worms here but for Tropp everyone in both Toronto and Buffalo are acting like this guy is not a fighter well 3 years ago he had 113 PIM's in the minors which is filled with goons who only fight and were probably 5 to 6 inches bigger. With the exception of one season hes had more PIM's then games so it wasn't as much of a miss match as people think. He knows how to fight just got caught like anyone can.

Foligno - Hodge - Vanek
Ott - Ennis - Leino
Girgensons - Grigo - Stafford
Scott - McCormick - Kaleta
-Porter

Ehrhoff - Pysyk
Myers - Tallinder
Weber - Risto
McBain

Larsson, Flynn, Sulzer, and Armia report to Rochester.

Larsson and Flynn would be called up very quickly when McCormick gets hurt and Stafford gets traded.

C - Ehrhoff
A - Ott
A - Vanek
A - Hodge

Players like Parros, Orr, Carcillo, Westgarth play a diminishing role in hockey. Our team with or without John Scott has no less or more of a chance getting a player "taken out" Injuries happen. Ones related to fighting are considerably less common. Tough guys like Thorton will test you but id rather have a group guys out there to show him whats what instead of waiting for the right shift all night to let Scott onto the ice.

Look up the last few cup winners and the number of playoff games each player dressed for. You dont see any John Scotts, or Carcillos sticking around. In arguably the toughest/hardest part of the season teams don't seem to need anyone like them. We see every year how often these guys are getting cut and signed at a faster rate. GMs see less of a need for these guys. Hopefully Darcy will do the same eventually.

Again, You should learn just a little something about the game before making such a dumb comment on here. How many of those top six guys are heavyweights and better yet how many of those true top six fighters do coaches and Gm's really want fighting on a regular basis ?
