now we all know why cloutier's and that vancouver blogger's blogs got so many comments. - rangerdanger94
That's why I liked those guys. Not everything has to be so holly jolly. Nothing wrong with a little controversy to get fans talking. At the end of the day every teams fans will be homers for their select players. It is what makes a fan a fan. I recommend (Dan Isles blogger and Jan start getting a bit more edgy with their writing to spice up the blogs a bit) |

How did I jump into the middle of a conversation? I read every page of this blog and have been as active as anyone in the conversation. If you're only basis for being one of a select group of players is "a perennial 100 point player" then I guess no defenseman in the league are as good as those guys. I guess defensive ability and physical play are negligible. For my money, I'd take Datsyuk over every player in the league but Crosby.
If your argument is simply that Tavares isn't a perennial 100-point player...well, that's just stating a fact that no one can really refute as he's yet to have 1 100-point season. That wasn't the argument. The argument is that Tavares brings more than just offense. - jmatchett383
LOL, really? I'm sorry I didn't rave about Tavares' penalty killing and incredible 2 way game. His backchecking and take aways are amazing. LOL, this whole conversation is about how Stepan is more of a 2 way player and Tavares is more of a scoring player. Then people wanted to start saying Tavares is in the same class as Crosby, Ovechkin, Stamkos, etc... Thats when I said no he is NOT. Those are perennial 100pt. players, and Tavares isn't one of them. So yes, please follow the conversation. |

Yes, because people are saying Tavares is a top defnsive player in the game, that he's on par with Bergeron and Datsyuk defesnively.
You're the only one who's come out and said that only 100 point players are elite players. And yes, Tavares isn't a perennial 100 point player...for that fact, Stamkos has never once hit 100 points, so he's not an elite player either I guess.
I think it's funny that you say the conversation's about how Stepan's good because he's a 2-way player to justify him, and then base "elite" players bases solely on offensive output. |

I'd put Datsyuk second and Giroux after Stamkos and maybe Tavares.
Also, I'd put Shea Weber after Toews. |

I realize its all a matter of opinion, and some of this is a little hair splitting. Not sure how many people would have St. Louis in the Top 10, so I realize I am on an Island on that one.
Didn't include defensemen. Just a foward list. |

a lot of people here are not giving the teammates of these perennial 100 point players enough credit. does stamkos score 60 without st. louis? does malkin score 100 without neal and playing the PP with crosby and letang? |

That's the issue. Does Gretzky put up those otherwordly numbers without playing on those Edmonton teams? Does Lemieux (those early 90s Pens teams were stacked)?
That's why, when I am gonna rank elite players, I discard all stats, offensive or defensive. I don't need to look at stats to know that Crosby and Datsyuk are top talents. I don't need stats to know that Lundqvist is a top-3 goalie. I base it on watching the players. That's what I use when I say that Tavares is elite. I'll pay close attention to Stepan, because I honestly haven't watched him much and am curious to see how he does.
And guys, it's been fun, but this is hurting my head, so everyone, have a good day. |

stepan is not elite but he's a very good hockey player similar to how callahan is a very good hockey player. stepan has great vision, a high hockey iq, enough skill to put the puck where he wants when he passes, and is excellent defensively (who remembers him picking chara's pocket behind the bruins' net and scoring?).
stepan will never by as dynamic as tavares, crosby, stamkos, etc. because he's not a good enough skater, he doesn't have the speed, and he doesn't have the hands to dangle like them. but as a center, he's a very good hockey player but not elite. |

I never once mentioned the word Elite. I responded to people saying that Tavares is among the class of players like Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, Stamkos. And the fact is he isn't. Right now, is among the 2nd tier of Elite players just below those guys who score 100+ points regularly or as I mentioned 50-60 goals regularly (in Stamkos' case). |
