I worry his goal totals this year are only going to be seven-eighths of what they could have been... - Atomic Wedgie

You didn't hear?
NY have decided to let Callahan and Girardi walk at the end of the season. - Pecafan Fan
Dude, check on capgeek.
They are clearly listed as eligible to become UFAs at the end of this year.

And if Franson hadn't signed?
Liles can still play top 4 on this team (without Franson). Komi couldn't. D would be a bit scary without him.
Liles can also be traded. Look at the other "untradeable" players Leafs have traded the last couple years. It can be done, just going to take the right situation. - Big_Lightnin

I was hoping for something a little more succinct - the kids these days have no attention spans.
Mrs. Atomic Wedgie was coaching softball this year, and somebody sent her a powerpoint presentation which outlined basic strategies (where to throw the ball when it is hit, depending on base runners, etc.) that was perfect.
Just hoping to find something similar. - Atomic Wedgie
hmmmm.. i dont know off the top of my head then |

I hope you are right.
But you can't do that when he's on the Marlies. And we will still have to eat salary.
Would have been better to compliance buy-out Liles, and just send Komi home or buy him out and pay the smaller penalty for two years.
Sucks to be us, I guess. |

Question related to next season and UFAs:
Will Nonis be more interested in resigning Captain Phaneuf and Kessel (combined 14-15million cap hit) or go for the alternative of:
Orpik (4)+ Girardi (5.5) + Callahan (6.5) UFA Signings.. (16m combined)
Personally I would very much prefer the 2nd scenario.. - MaximusAurelius
So much wrong with this, don't know where to start. Lets just say this biggest issue with this is letting guys go and banking on others becoming UFA. Not smart at all.

Exactly. They'll have to take a contract back, but it will be one they can bury. Or retain salary.
worst case scenario here's his buyout next summer:
John-Michael Liles buyout from CapGeek.com
◦2014-15: $791,667
◦2015-16: $2,291,667
◦2016-17: $1,166,667
◦2017-18: $1,166,667
Not ideal, but completely manageable if there is no other option. |

I don't know why so many people think Liles is unmovable. If the leafs eat salary and maybe throw in a low- mid prospect it is certainly doable. In fact I think there is a good chance it happens before the season starts. |

The fact it hasn't happened yet...
If it happens this weekend, Nonis will shut up all the critics. Kept Liles just long enough to force Franson to sign for peanuts, then trade him - boom, $3M in extra cap space.

Next year wont be that bad
Kessel, Franson, Gardiner -- Large Raise
Bolland, McClement, Fraser, Phaneuf -- No Raise - The first 3 are 3rd or 4th liners if they get a raise it will be 250K or we move them
Kulemin - Paycut unless he has a great year
Reimer - If Bernier is the man - Not a Raise or gone - If they split give him a little raise
Ranger and Raymond - lets see what we have before we decide if we need them.
Some of these guys can easily be replace by Rielly, Blacker, Ashton etc.
It wont be that bad

Oh...dont recall, two different retweets from "sources" which I dont follow...dont really follow any "rumour twitter folk"...just discussion at this point, but I think if the Flames are involved in talks, Burke wants an Ashton type guy thrown in for free. |
