I didn't read any posts yet but Franson obviously got fleeced. He's at least worth 3.5 right now and should be towards 4 a year. $33.4M committed for next year. Kessel is 7 minimum; lucky if leafs get him under that. McClement, Kulimen, Bolland, Phaneuf all UFA. Then Kadri will want big $ after signing that 2.9. Leafs shouldn't have signed Clarkson

Fransons underpaid. I don't disagree with Watters about Kessel, If they have to they should trade him if he's in any way looking like he's exploring FA after this year. Trade Dion. His offense will be redundant especially after this season. Lupul for C.

Woooo.

No playoffs. No one to shut down teams top lines. Yay

And yay, Lupul for captain. I bet you'll want another captain within 2 seasons because Lupul only plays half the season.

Jesus, why the hell doesn't Mike Augello get top billing on this site. This blog alone will have almost as many hits as Garth does for an entire year....

Bill Watters act is getting old. Honestly, listening to him, every player we ever traded for was a bad deal. They all suck and the other teams are laughing. Every player on our team is untradable.
Its ridiculous.
Not one positive comment out of his mouth.
Really Mike, don't waste your time with Watters, it is annoying listening to him >>>Bla bla bla.

He is soooooo smart.... he has managed how many teams since the Leafs?
He hasn't even been in the league in years......why? you ask?
Gee, i wonder how Bill would answer that question.....

And commence the next 10 year rebuilding cycle...

Really, I don't see what the big deal is. Sign Kessel at 8, Phaneuf at less than 7, and see what Franson does this year.

If Franson earns himself a huge raise, then he also becomes a valuable, expendable asset. The cap is going to rise steadily, Kadri won't be an issue for two years, and with Phaneuf/Kessel under contract, we've locked up the core.

they will be fine..... remember when the Leafs were (frank)ed this summer and couldn't get Kadri and Franson signed?? Ah, good times......... I think you should leave the cap management to the experts and those that can do basic math.

Shaddup. Maybe our captain will go the way of your (former) captain at the end of this season - elsewhere. Either that, or take a more team friendly cap hit, like the Sedins and others have done. Let's see what kind of 'team' guy Dion is.

Franson in the Toronto Sun:

“At the end of it, you sit back and look at it and realize it is just business,” Franson said. “They have a job to do and that’s to try to make everything work. I understand that. This is where I want to be, it is my dream place to play. I am hopeful that it is a long-term deal coming up after this.”

He must be the first player ever to say that after signing a new deal.

As a western Canadian I can only imagine how badly he's wanted to be a Leaf his whole life. Luckily for him he gets to live his dream!

These next few months for him are going to be big. If he plays very well, he will get his money. If he plays like last year, and does not take the body and be as physical, he gets less.

If it's not with the Leafs, someone will pay him what he wants next summer.
