Hey Master Zinger. Let's see the Leafs D see if we have room for the kid.

Phaneuf/Gunnarson
Fraser/Franson
Gardiner/Ranger

7th d man? Liles or Brennan IF they not to keep Reilly. If they indeed keep Reilly than Brennan is AHL bound & Liles will be demoted or traded for a bag of used hockey pucks.

- GCHonda

Fraser has not played well this pre season.

The problem is we don't have anyone close to being as good of a whole package as Phaneuf, not even close. Everybody likes to poop on him but he is a good player who deserves some credit for what he has helped the team achieve as the Captain of the club. Nonis and Phaneuf have both stated the desire for him to be with the leafs and I doubt he goes anywhere.
- Yeti1181

He is a good player. But he will demand too much money! That's the only reason i want him gone. I believe Gards/Rielly have Keith/Letang potential and that's more than enough to replace Phaneuf. He gets too much ice-time and that leads to blown leads and OT losses.

#1 this article doesn't take all into account, only corsi and that crap.

#2 corsi is extremely flawed and has no relevance for me. It's too flawed to concidering even looking at. Some stats have their flaws, yes but corsi's foundation. Is flawed. It it build on fundamentally flawed platform.

When you look at Toronto's defensive zone faceoff numbers and offensive zone numbers you can tell that they were probably playing in their end more than anything though.

28.4% of their faceoffs were in the offensive zone
36.8% were in the defensive zone

That was good enough for last place and 2nd last place. Flyers were close behind in both counts btw lol. Difference is they couldn't make up for that in other areas (PK, goaltending, etc) like Toronto.

You give him a big minute partner on the Defensive side of the game, he'd look like a lot more complete. Top 10, even.

But there is the problem, Ranger is the only Defenseman you could project as capable of that. He did manage it in Tampa, and I feel that out of the shutdown guys we have, he's certainly a keeper.

Bye Kuli, Fraser, Orr, Raymond, (possibly Reimer)

Better get some skilled young forwards when we trade Dion.

Seriously going to put the blame on him solely? Everybody screws up. What we need is someone to play with him not get rid of him. The reason he plays so much is there is no one to do what he does and people want to get rid of him

Some teams rely on their goaltending more than others. Therefor the stats matter more for some goalies than others. I dont know why people are arguing about this
- Arctic_AARDVARK

The Leafs had the worst goaltending since the 04-05' lockout. Of course the far superior goaltending made a difference.

He's good... But just not for the money he'll want. And also i think he's too much of a robot sometimes. He doesn't show much emotion sometimes and only lays big hits for a few games at a time. Lupul should be captain. That guy is prime.

Exactly why you shouldn't rely so much on a couple of advanced stats.

I think Ranger will be there by second month of the season and Gunnar would make an excellent second pair or even third if that's where he's going to fit in. I think a top four of:
Phaneuf Ranger
Franson Reilly

Either this year or next Gardnier will get packaged to get a top line center.

One last time..

TOO MUCH MONAAAYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

He plays way too much. 30 mins a game sometimes??? that's nuts. Keep him around 23-24 mins, that's still lots of time.
