I'm glad Franson is back. I'm just surprised that Nonis caved so soon on the term issue. That REALLY puts Nonis in a tight squeeze next summer. He has 5 d men now to sign including Phanuef. Plus he has Kessel to re-sign for like $7 mill per. We know Phanuef will at least ask for what he is earning now, $6.5 mill per. If Franson has another good season, he may command $5 mill per. Would have made a HUGE difference if Franson was given a 2 year deal. Could have signed Phanuef in the summer of 2014 & Franson in the following summer. So now good luck next summer Nonis. |

Massively outshot, just look at the comparisons. Percentage wise, there is a separation of 5 shots-per-game-let-up from Toronto (@27th) to the New York Isles (@10th)... To make such a drastic conclusion as he made is ridiculous. - A_Tree
Agreed. Not to mention that team that are leading take less shots and the leafs were leading more than they were trailing.
It's a flawed stat. |

Just becuase they didn't shoot the puck doesn't mean they didn't have posession. Fact.
Giving up shots doesn't mean you were dominated.
The article says that (because of shot totals) the leafs were out processed by what 30%? That is false, just from watching the games. - burn
the article does not say it was because of total shots
he was making two separate points there
Getting massively outshot and playing in their own zone 32% more often than in the opposing zone are not recipes for consistent success. |

The cap is going up and the Leafs have Armstrong/Tucker coming off the books.
It's hard to put a negative spin on this. 2 million is a steal. And Franson has to have a big year again to get that huge raise.

but still ray emery - daeth
Toscala, Raycroft or the Monster could probably be 17-1 with Chicago. Now b4 anyone freaks out, yes Emery is 100x better than those stiffs just saying don't expect those kinda numbers with an average d group in front of him in Philly. |

Another thing never mentioned, the Leafs actually had a very high shooting % the season prior when they finish bottom 5 in the NHl.
But their goaltending crapped the bed. Hence the bad results. In the "Only Going to Count Advanced Stats" groupies, goaltending is not important stat to judge the Leafs.

They can sign him at any time through the year. I think he ll take a long term with more up front descending to bring the cap down to around 6 or slightly under. |

I say we pair Franson with Gards or Dion and let him rack up the points. Then trade him a month before the deadline at his max value. He will demand an tonne and i am looking forward more to watching Gards Rielly Percy MacWilliam Finn etc develop. The only way i am on board with signing Franson long term is if we trade Phaneuf. |

that was an obviously sarcastic comment by me.
but its tough to argue with the points he makes about being drastically outshot and maintaining that abnormally high shooting % like they did last *half season |

Corsi is being rammed down everyone's throat, see the article in question. It's the new stat in vogue now dispute it's obvious flaws. A few people are pushing it hard and the braindead legions are following. They don't see the flaws in it. |

I hope Nonis can fit everyone under the cap nest summer. Kessel for sure will get $7 mill per, Phanuef at least get $6-6.5 mill per, Franson mabie $5 mill per, other UFA's are Kulemin, McClement, Raymond, Bolland, Fraser, Gardner, Orr, McLaren & Reimer. That is quite a list. |
