Unless nobody in their area wants them.. And they sign in another league, and become a top 2 defenceman on the 2013 memorial cup champions.. And then outplay Seth Jones in their pre-season nhl debut, while playing over 26 minutes and assisting the goal to send it to OT..

Leafs don't even need to make a trade to get under the cap.

Send Liles&Holzer down... Keep Brennan, Smith, and Colborne up as the extra players... got 100k of breathing room.

I think one of Liles, Holzer or Brennan sticks as the 7th d-man; and I could see Bodie (Leiweki's son in law) sticking over Smith because he's a fighter. At least until McLaren is back.

Nonis did well getting Franson and Kadri signed for this season... But i am sure those contracts will end up costing the leafs more Cap space in the long run.

I'd give him a B.

- He ended up paying high prices for his UFA signings.

- He ended up signing RFAS to good/very good short term contracts for the most part.

- Trades appear to be good/very good value.

- Compliance buyouts chosen were questionable.

- Did not address 2 major needs - a #1C or a #2 D-man.

Overall, the team looks better now then at the end of last year.

Dumping Liles only gives the Leafs around $925k extra space. Not really worth it. Just move him for anything at this point.
