Yes...they theorized the Leafs could actually request a trade to the East to help him develop under their guidance more efficiently. Seems a little out there, but who knows. - Woderwick
Who the hell theorized that? Only way he could be sent to another CHL league is if he was released or a European taking up a slot of the 2 Euro slots and is forced to make a deal with any team remaining in the CHL with an open slot. |

He did a great job, hands down. I can't wait - t_leafs21
I'd give him a B.
- He ended up paying high prices for his UFA signings.
- He ended up signing RFAS to good/very good short term contracts for the most part.
- Trades appear to be good/very good value.
- Compliance buyouts chosen were questionable.
- Did not address 2 major needs - a #1C or a #2 D-man.
Overall, the team looks better now then at the end of last year. |

Leafs don't even need to make a trade to get under the cap.
Send Liles&Holzer down... Keep Brennan, Smith, and Colborne up as the extra players... got 100k of breathing room.

This is a really good way to put Nonis' efforts into perspective - optimism about the team, young group, cap flexibility moving forward...now get Kessel signed 5 x 7.5 and he gets a statue...(5 + in term fine by me) |

The flip side is that the team has cap space and flexibility to make choices. |

Pretty clear the only way the Leafs - or anyone - won the Clarkson sweepstakes was by going all in on term; arguably the most sought after winger FA? At the end of the day, rather have Clarkson for 72 games this year than Clowe for 82.
Kessel not re-upping and then going the season without a contract extension worries me - unfortunately the "2 firsts and a second" price for 5 years of Phil argument will come out, and those using it would be right. Have to move him for value at deadline unless clear indication he re-ups.
Although, if no contract, and no extension by the Sedin's...he gets his 1C and new scoring winger on the open market IMO. |

See what I mean. We all learn something from you "most" days. But I need more help than most on here. |

Nonis and Poulin already said that CapGeek IS NOT accurate. Close...but not accurate.
Suspicion is that a few of the contracts listed have a "bonus clause", so not all guaranteed money. As a result, those bonuses can be rolled into next years cap instead of this year, thus giving Leafs MORE cap space in 2013-2014 than CapGeek states.
- Ruski
I think the only regular player on your team that has a bonus clause is Jake Gardiner. 300K in bonuses that if achieved can be pushed into next years cap. |

Dumping Liles only gives the Leafs around $925k extra space. Not really worth it. Just move him for anything at this point. |

Unless nobody in their area wants them.. And they sign in another league, and become a top 2 defenceman on the 2013 memorial cup champions.. And then outplay Seth Jones in their pre-season nhl debut, while playing over 26 minutes and assisting the goal to send it to OT..
I'm not mad at all that montreal gave their 7th round pick to florida... |

Agreed - he paid market value. Market value for both bozak and clarkson was high.
Too early in mind to make any other assessment on either of those deals.
Ideally, in a rising cap world Bozak's deal will look better each year and clarkson works out as a great wingman for kadri, scoring goals, watching his back.
(EDIT: raymond and ranger were obviously signed a bargain bin prices. looks to like 2 UFA signings at full market value and 2 UFA signings at below market value) |
