Steve Simmons thinks Carlyle will pick broll to replace clarkson for 10 games, he brings the same game.

Umm.. I think Ashton is closer to clarkson and he has more scoring.

Well Ashton makes just over 1M and Broll just over 500k....so they can afford neither right now.

um...the cap is going up.
Even with the Kessel deal, there will still be enough.

What do you think the asking price for liles is?

I thought his offensive numbers were worse tbh...Adam pointed out that they werent. I like his game, he quietly gets the job done and plays he body. Exactly a Carlyle type guy. Low maintenance.
- Colin Dambrauskas

I like him as well.
However, I just feel he is replaceable and the Leafs could use cap space. Plus he is a tradeable commodity.

Gunnarsson Phaneuf

Fraser Franson

Gardiner Ranger

Brennan Liles

With perhaps the chance of Fraser and Gardiner switching!

YAAAAAA! That just shattered Rielly's hopes and dreams of being a Leaf this year. Keeping Brennan at 600k over Rielly at 900k could be the difference in getting under cap unless we can move Liles.

Nevermind, just did the cap calculator. With McLaren as our 13th forward and 7 dmen (without rielly or Brennan) were sitting 333k in cap

Right, but with McLaren hurt, Colborne centering 4th line, Kulemin slotting into the 2nd line RW, we're short a 3rd line RW, let alone a 13th forward.
- gravyface

which has been my point all along...someone else needs to be moved, specifically on defense. With (zero) injuries the Leafs have a full roster under the cap right now...no room for injuries or suspensions. So Liles basically needs to be moved for what ever a team will give the Leafs.

Ashton still on elc, so he has bonuses counted in there..... More like 900k.

I think they can.

$333k is what the Leafs have at this moment. They cant afford a single player in the AHL with that space.

Yes good point. $810k for Ashton's NHL salary...still nearly 3 times more than the Leafs have.

I still believe a deal can get done for Liles if you add Colborne to sweeten the pot! Colborne and Liles to Calgary for a 2nd/ but I think a 3rd round pick!!! Liles is still a good Dman and can help a lot of the younger Dmen on a team like Calgary. It's just the Cap that's the problem with the Leafs. Colborne is still a project but given the possible ice time he would garner in Calgary he still could be a top 2/3 center!!!!

Yeah, I just did that as well. We can perhaps throw McLaren on short term IR to get space for Ashton while his finger heals up

So if Kessel had of gotten some regular season games in his suspension the Leafs would of been really (frank)ed or ?

No matter how you look at it.....Nonis is horrible at cap management.
This is not even a cup contending team and they can barely do a 23 man roster.

Not sure any really knows cap space other than the leafs..

Dave Poulin.

“I would caution one thing. I know there is a website that has become extremely popular in terms of cap knowledge. It’s not exact. There’s a cushion base that’s figured in here… nobody can sit outside our room and tell us exactly what our cap is other than Claude Loiselle, and that’s corresponding directly with the league. The cap number that is out there, while it’s in the ballpark, it’s not exactly accurate.”
“It’s inaccurate, because of the bonus cushion you’re allowed on contracts. There is more of a margin there. That said, for a number of teams it is really, really tight. The timing of this is unfortunate, coming off a year where the cap goes down. I think what we’re going to see is situations where teams are carrying less than 23 players. It’s going to become more the norm than the exception. 21 is going to be a number you see way more than 2

Just looked if mclaren is on or to dart they have enough room.

Cap geek has then abot 1m over right now, with 14 forwards and 8 d.

They are countin gardiners bonuses (300k), and have too many bodies listed. Smith And holzer out is a mil.

I think they can fit it in if they wanted Ashton.
