Not sure how it works in baseball. Does Sandberg have his own guy he wants to recommend? Are managers even empowered to hire their coaches?

Joyner is credited with helping Dom Brown progress. He'll get a pass.

Not so sure about Henderson.

- johndewar

Brown's fielding coach may not be so lucky.

And to add to that, I wonder if there is some part of Homer that thinks trading Grossman is the best way to go. Although he is decent at puck moving, Meszaros is obviously more of the two-way defenseman. Not only could Grossman bring in a nicer package, but maybe he thinks Meszaros fits the system better.

If we are living and dying by Lavi's system (gasp) might as well give him the pieces that fit the best within that system.

They don't need to trade anyone at the moment. Why not stick with all 7?

Sure, not having to put Pronger's cap hit on LTIR would be a nice luxury, but I'd rather have the luxury of 7 NHL-caliber defenseman on the roster. You can rotate who sits.

And as Homer said on 8/12, "You can never have enough defensemen."

Amazing that a game, even a pre-season one, for a team owned by a company that not only is the largest cable company in the world, but which also owns several TV networks, isn't on TV.

It's the Devils. You've seen this game a hundred times. Debs go up one. Check. Check. Check.

Yeah, they can also always make the trade in-season and then take Pronger off of LTIR to start banking cap space. More likely, though, one (or more) of the top-six will end up on LTIR themselves and we'll be talking about adding dmen from outside...

Very plausible. But I feel comfortable with plugging in with guys from ADK, though.

Plugging in is one thing, but a long-term fix is quite another. Unless it's a return that will benefit the team now and in the future, there's no problem in having 7 NHL dmen.

Clearly not. Based on his 15 games played last year, it's very clear that Oliver Lauridsen is a top-4 defenseman (maybe top pair) that will be able to positively contribute over a full 82-game season.

Another in a long line of excellence... from Andy Delmore to Randy Jones to Oskars Bartulis to MA Bourdon to Erik Gustafsson to Oliver Lauridsen... sets my heart aflame.

None of them will ever be Lasse Kukkonen.

As much as it shames me to say this... Kukkonen was a Dale Tallon draft pick

Kukkonen was (as a 6/7) fine until Andy Sutton ruined him.

You are soo right on this. Devils forecheck at the beginning, hem us in, score 1 goal... snore fest from then on.

I'm calling it right now: Flyers win this one 4-2 with an empty netter from Luke Schenn. Other goals from Giroux, Coots, and Read. Shots are 31-22 Flyers.

I say 3-1 Devils.. It's 3-0 after 10 mins, Flyers outshot 30-10.. last minute goal by Raffl. Slapshot by Mesz hits off the back of his helmet in front of the net and deflects in.

I see it going like this.. Flyers come out with a little more pizzazz and get the first two goals.. Jersey gets a goal right towards the end of the period off of a failed clear..

2nd and 3rd period the Devils play like the Devils normally play, blank the Flyers the rest of the way and tie it midway through the 3rd.. Goes through OT and to a shootout where the Devils win with a 3-1 goal advantage.

I don't know, I'm just not seeing the Raffl craze. I mean, he looks good positionally and seemed to do a decent job forechecking, but he doesn't seem to have ANY offensive pop. I haven't really seen Vandevadenbrockstein at all, but I really think Raffl could use some AHL time.
