Best part of this for me is the fans:

Flyer fan: (something I could make out)
Jersey fan: Go Home!
Flyer fan: Ilya Kovalchuk!

They could just respond "Ilya Bryzgalov" though, right?

There's no commentary or score overlays....and almost no regulars dressed for the Flyers. No Giroux, Lecavalier, Voracek, Timonen...definitely the B team tonight

Kind of refreshing, though I'll probably suffer withdrawals not knowing how long it took Coatesy to learn to write his name in cursive.

Does that change the fact that he took a huge number of faceoffs and therby proved himself to be one of the top faceoff guys in the league?
Last year the top 10 faceoffs guys who took more than 700 faceoffs
1. Bergeron
2. Toews
3. Thornton
4. Vermette
5. Zajac
6. Gordon
7. Stoll
8. Datsyuk
9. Duchene
10. Giroux (with 300 more faceoffs taken than Duchene)

- JAKEw1234

Nope. It's the main reason he took so many faceoffs. His coach didn;t have anyone else that he trusted to take faceoffs, so Giroux took a ton of them. If they had had anyone else, Giroux wouldn;t have had so many draws

I dont get the Hall hate at all. He is a type of player that during the 82 game season will eat up the hard minutes so guys like Giroux and Vinne dont have too.

imo Laughton is not ready nor reliable enough, Couts is still young and is learning how to be good at the draw and being consistent versus players not named Makin, and Talbot seems more sound when playing the wing with other lock down players.

Sure, he's getting a check for the nxt 13 years, but Kovalchuk counts against the cap for them

Have to say out of Raffl, Laughton and whatever the hell the last dude's name is I would probably go with Raffl.

Not really a hope compliment, but I havent seen too much out of the other two.

That doesn't change that he performed at a very high level for the number of faceoffs he took.

Could also help explain his wrist injuries over the last few years.

That or he gets ferociously lonely around midnight.

Nobody is saying that he didn't do a very good job, just that he's not the best face-off guy they have. In fact, with the addition of Hall and Lecavalier, he likely won;t lead the NHL in faceoffs taken again.

Nah his one was cause Crosby slashed him at the faceoff circle a bunch.

I got the sound from gamecenter live with the Flyers feed. Sound is about 10 seconds behind though.

Agreed, I like him long-term though and think he could possibly fill a 4th-line role as early as sometime this season.

I'd personally keep Vandevelde over Hall because the former is the better skater of the two, hence my reluctance to hold onto the latter in spite of his clear dominance at the dot.

- LordStanley88

I don't think skating should matter. Hall is not slow, nor is his skating inadequate for the NHL. Hall is a faceoff specialist, and is an experienced veteran on the PK. Vandevelde is currently signed to an AHL contract, and doesn't fill the niche that Hall does.

Its funny, sometimes during the season when I get online feeds, I guess some of the guys here in Philly have the real time.

I get delayed by up to two minutes. I clearly remember the game against Washington a few years ago, when Lupul got the OT winner. I was so pissed off, everyone here ruined it for me.

No that means lavy just marched him out there because he had no one else better. Would you be sending Briere out there to take a defensive zone draw? Or Couturier? Total wins is a skewed number, because of the sheer amount of draws he took.

With Vinny in the fold, G won't be taking as many draws. Guarantee he won't be leading the NHL in faceoff wins this season.

I spent the last 10 minutes googling looking for career faceoff stats and found nothing. That being said, I'm pretty positive Hall's FO% has G's beat on a yearly basis.

- Giroux_Is_God

All of that information can be found an NHL.com. Hall was at 59% for the Flyers last year. And he was at 59.5% for TB in 11/12.

How can this list be a fair comparison between Hall and Giroux? You've completely eliminated Hall due to the number of faceoffs. Hall isn't going to get nearly as much ice time as those players.

Look, it's not that Giroux is not a reliable guy at the dot. He as a matter of fact is.

That being said you have to look at the big picture. If someone takes 700 shots, of course he'll score more goals then the guy who doesn't get fed one timers on the PP like Player A does and thus only takes 400. But maybe, the guy that took 400 shots scored at a 12% clip, while the other guy at a 8%. With player A scoring 56 times and player B scoring 48, you could make a strong argument that player B is the "better" goal scorer.

Numbers skew the results a little bit. Here, we should be looking at percentages, provided both players took a large enough sample size to form that percentage.

Hall took I think 300 faceoffs last year and won 55% of them (I think). G took about 1200 and won 52% or something like that. With those numbers, I'd rather have Hall out there at the dot (disregarding the situation and only looking at numbers)

He certainly did. Giroux was outstanding on draws last year. But Hall is better, or at least has been better.

I was looking for a compiled career stat.

Didn't think of doing it the manual way and just toggling the year like that. Duh Too much immuno I guess.
