So fallout. ? Brennan goes down. Rielly I think has too now just for cap reasons. Unless Liles is moving? If he isn't a forward like Colborne or Ashton has to be moved or sent down. Even with Brennan and Rielly down they are still 500k over.

Edit. Not sure about who will be injured to start the year though.

I don't like Brady's schtick at all. Annoying as hell on radio. I listen to Richards in the morning. And yes, he is RFA.

yep good deal and very glad it's over...Now all they need to do is lock up Phaneuf and Kessel so we have no distractions this year..

Didn't Kessel say he didn't want to negotiate during the season?

Season not started yet....

Poulin on Kessel contract:

Kessel‘s contract situation:

“I think both sides are well aware of [Kessel's desire not to negotiate in-season]. We’ve got some time here and that could still develop in the next few days
.”

My guess they working on a new contract now...

Nonis really wanted 2 yrs. next yr off season is going to be messy. 4 D alone into free agency but at only 2 M for this yr. you gotta do that deal.

I don't think the upcoming signings are necessarily going to be that messy. If Ranger is halfway decent, he'll be looking for something like 2M/year I would guess... if he struggles, the dollar amount will be lower.

in short

Ranger, 1.5 - 2.5 for two years - could be negotiated at any time during the year - advisable after New Year... both sides will see trend

Fraser 1.5 - 2.0 (at most) .... see Ranger commentary above

Phaneuf - 5.5 - 7.5 based on term dollar combo - he's not really much of CAP concern either, he's already at 6.5...even a raise to 7.5 (which I don't think he'll get, represents only a 1M CAP hit) I think the guy loves playing in Toronto, loves the attention and really enjoys being captain.

Franson and Gardiner are both RFAs... and as recent past has shown, they don't have much leverage. In Franson's case, he'll need to score at 40-45 points pace over 80 games to justify any large raise.... and Gardiner will only get sufficient ice time (based on his sporadic defensive coverage) to allow for a certain amount of upside.

Nonis has all the cards in all this conversations because of

1) Reilly
2) Blacker
3) Percy

I believe the outcome will be Liles and someone(Ashton) going either out west (Colorado, Calgary) or to Brooklyn.... in exchange for a pick or middling prospect. No salary sharing... that's why there's a someone included.

just taking a look at the Islander's roster - as one example - they certainly appear to have a spot for a guy like Likes (particularly after losing Streit)....
