I'd probably trade Colborne and Liles as a package, since you have a young center and then Liles as the throw-in for his salary. To who and for what, no idea. We could probably sucker Calgary.

Yup with Colborne not impressing enough to saty with the Leafs & he has to clear waivers if demoted, his days as a Leaf appear to be over. I dunno, he could never crack the Bruins roster. When he came to TO he couldn't even crack a weaker team in TO, a team that was weak down the middle & he's a ccenter. He may still yet become a good NHLer one day but the writing was on the wall, he was never gonna make it in TO.

To be fair, he has been hurt or banged up most of his time in T.O, kinda figured it would be his time to stick with the team, being healthy and all and an open roster spot

Hope so, I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Gardiner seems to have picked up where he left off last season. I hope Franson can do the same. But I'm sure missing camp doesn't help.

Will you guys be upset if Franson is moved and Liles stays?

I'm guessing you will get a mediocre prospect and a late pick for Franson if he's traded.

- moondawg

Be (frank)ing stupid to trade him for that. IMHO

I think nonis has a mini lu/schneider situation on his hands with liles/franson.

Do you trade the younger player for a decent return or the older player with the relatively onerous contract and give up a prospect/retain salary?

Seems to me that trading franson for a decent return is the better long-term move.

- doinktheclown

so we move the young PP STUD for the old guy and we are better long term how?

Great exposure for garf...not for the right reason but in his case, he will take ANY kind of publicity. The more people click on his blogs...the more $ he gets.

so every time we post that counts as a hit?

curious?

like the 10 of us posting all day, whoever pays for the advertising would clue in eventually, wouldn't they?

I've always liked Colborne. In fact when the all the Leaf/Kaberle hallabaloo trade stuff was going on, I was the one who kept saying the Leafs should try to get Colborne from Bos. I always wished he could have been the #1 or at least the #2 center for the Leafs.

Why? It's like he is losing any money at this point The real pressure will come in October when he starts missing paychecks

If the Leafs find a permanent replacement he will be fukked for this year anyways.
Fuk Franson, if I'm Nonis I let him untill he caves in. All season if need be.

He will sign and you'll be happy when he does. In the mean time, enjoy watching young guys trying to show what they can do. He will get signed before the 15th of October (1st paycheck)

Don't get me wrong I like Franson, always have. I'm just pissed at the stand he is taking. Yes I'll be happy if/ when he signs. I will forgive him if/when that happens.

Missing all of the preseason and training camp while young players impress and give your organization thoughts about how they might be able to move on without you is never good.

Franson is not a player trying to make it to the NHL. If the Leafs don't want him, they can trade him, there will be takers, he is a top 6 D on most NHL teams.

If he signs and has a great year, he will cash-in big next summer. This is hurting those chances.

I dont think you could unload Liles even with Colborne right now. I imagine it is pretty clear to everyone that Colborne's chances at an NHL career are pretty slim.

Of course, he's young, 6'5 big boy, big booming shot, his shot is more accurate than Phanuef. Of course 29 other teams would take a look at him. I'd love to see him back with the Leafs if he stops being a jerk.

Hard to believe at least one of the other 29 teams wouldn't be interested in picking up Colborne off the wire.

We have 2.6M left to spend. Since clarkson is gone and with apparently ashton making the team, we will have about 1.6M left to spend. Therfore a guy like colborne makes no sense to get rid of, since we would only have 2.2M. Colborne will be a good depth player, an extra guy if needed really. He is not burdening this team with his 600K salary and hes young, lots to prove still and would be dumb to give up on him.

The only 2 players that makes sense to move is fraser who has been unimpressive through these preseasons or Liles who is the obvious #1 choice to move.

With fraser we will have 2.8M to spend and that includes ashton in the lineup with his 1M.

With liles we will obviously have an excess to spend if he is gone.
