Exactly - oh brother.

When you have a forum like HB to express your opinions, there is a social responsibility to not cross the line. Pretty obvious that because this post was edited and the offensive content removed, someone agreed with me. Would still love to hear an explanation though. It's hockey. There was a fight with stick swinging and a guy came off the bench - so a blogger implies a bullet proof vest is required for a player who participated in said brawl? I get the importance of drawing eye balls to a site like this, but it doesn't absolve people of their social responsibility not to sensationalize the issue for the sake of content.

People who comment on HB are held to a certain standard, pretty sure the blogger's should be leading by example.

I agree with you here. The blogger should post stories, news, facts. The comments are meant for opinions and discussion.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but in light of the last 12 months + in the US regarding gun violence, I'm sorry, but joke or not, that is incredibly insensitive material and has no place anywhere on the internet let alone a hockey site.

I see no signs of being a Jerk. It was insensitive. Was it meant to be? No but it was. You're good in my books (not like mine are anything special).

This is arguably the worst blog I've EVER read on hockeybuzz.

Saying Jeff O'neill's opinion doesn't matter because he had a career -115 on some bad teams? the guy has a pair of 30 goal seasons and a 40 goal season on his resume. How many goals have you scored in the NHL Garth?

this one takes the cake "Listen. Ron Rolston is guilty of one thing. That is defending his player Corey Tropp, a middleweight who was beat down by an AHL heavyweight orangutan in Toronto's Devane"

1) Tropp started the fight. Devane is trying to earn a roster spot, is he supposed to back down because he has 30lbs on the guy?

2.) Devane has only played 22 AHL games with 41 PIM's..not exactly AHL "heavyweight" material. Tropp isn't exactly ever gonna win the lady byng as he put up 113 PIM's in the AHL 2 seasons ago

3.) orangutan ? really? this is supposed to be a professional blog

this guy has to go

After reading Garth's NHL News blog for the last couple of days, imagine my surprise when I went to NHL.com and discovered that there were 28 other teams in the league other than the Buffalo Sabres and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Quick question. When the Sabres and Toronto meet again, if a Toronto goon jumps a 'skilled' Sabre's player, is it justified? Are two wrongs a right? From a Toronto fan's eyes, would you be OK if this happened or do you believe it is wrong? Where is the line drawn? I mean, the Sabres technically never did anything. Kessel never was hit (and he still bloodied up Flynn lol).

Was already on the ice.
Not defending what he did just stating a fact.

- jochfr

Right you are. No doubt the coach told him what to do though. End of the day, I don't agree with the fine to Rolston, but having a goon jump a skill guy is pretty gutless.

Adding to that, for a "seasoned" coach, Carlyle should have known why Scott was still out there. Putting out Kessel to diffuse the situation was a terrible move. Scott is a fringe player at best, Carlyle had to have known that Scott had to do what his coach told him or else he would have a reserved seat in the press-box or in the minors for the rest of his career.

Nah, all that will happen is Orr will just beat up Scott with a low blow.

That's not gonna happen. Orr and McLaren will go after scott, and maybe Clarkson will go after kaleta

I have never seen Colton Orr go after a star player the way Scott was going after Kessel..he know's his role and knows who he has to fight

Seems fair. It comes with the territory. I think them two would have a good fight. I know people claim Orr won last time but I honestly thought Scott was doing a little better until Orr threw a nice rib shot it and weakened him to fall (which is fair) and that gives Orr the 'W'.

Well, Orr did go after Chara, A LOT! But Chara could kick the poop out of most guys in this league so....

They fought again after and I believe Scott won that one. McLaren IMO had better fights with Scott, I think it was 2 to 1 for McLaren, but could be wrong.

Even Scott said he wasn't going to beat him up due to it being Kessel. You don't have to believe it I guess but Scott was just going to push him around. Unlucky that it was the star of your team. I don't blame Randy 100% because I would think by me sending Kessel out there that Scott might not go after him too. But then again you never know.

If you don't want the wrath of the Toronto Media to rain down on you, then don't send your goon over the boards to fight "whoever lines up next to you".
Boo-Hoo Garth. If Rolston keeps up with this "style" of coaching, he'll have a lot more than O'neill calling him out.

- Cimo

Is this supposed to scare Rolston into running over to the corner of his coaches office to start sucking his thumb?

The "wrath" of the Toronto media, i.e. the worst media in the hockey world? The one with the sense of entitlement? Just like every single free agent out there on July 1st has Toronto on their radar because, well, it's Toronto, right?

Get over yourselves.

That suck-hole media who thinks "we're the center of the hockey universe even though our team has more losing than winning seasons since the Sabres came into the league"?

That media?

Who cares?

You think Rolston cares about that?

What's Damien Cox and the "Canadian National Enquirer", the Toronto Star, going to do to Rolston, beat him up?

Fact is the Leafs (1443-1584-311) have been a joke for at least 1/2 of the 40+ years the Sabres have been in the league, and have been nothing more than a mediocre, .500 hockey organization for it's entire existence.

Call us when you've actually done something since 1970.

Question for your question: If a Toronto goon jumps a Buffalo skill player, is the Buffalo player allowed one swing of the stick & one spear before incurring any suspension? It would all be in the name of "self defense" of course.

I don't blame the first slash on Kessel. Most of us would do the same thing if a 6'8" 270 pound guy was coming after you.
My biggest issue isn't what Buffalo or Toronto did, it's the way it's been handled by the NHL and their complete lack of consistancy with penalties/fines/suspensions.

Garth, by my count you've squeezed SEVEN (reactive, increasingly insane, but relentlessly entertaining) blogs out of this incident. I hope you at least wrote thank-you notes to everyone involved? Seems like the polite thing to do.

I honestly see Ott & Clarkson getting a shot at each other before Kaleta even steps on the ice.

In all honesty, I think the slap on the wrist to Kessel is Shanny's response to having no technical grounds to suspend Scott for going after him in the first place.
