But I like Higgins and Hansen together, I don't think Burrows is an upgrade on the 3rd line for Hansen, and I don't think Hansen can produce the way Burrows does on the 1st line.

I agree, I'd be more than happy with those 2 as third line wingers. Hansen/Burrows can be swapped depending on who's playing better and such, but I agree that Hansen reminds me of Burrows a bit before he established himself on the Sedin line. Works his ass off, but he'll need to develop his patience and hockey sense a bit like Burrows did playing with the Sedins and he could be just as good.

Pretty much this. Well in perfect world he'd acquire a top 6 winger and 3d line center but you gotta give to get and unless you're willing to give up top picks/prospects you're to going to fill one hole and possibly create another in our current lineup. Exactly why GM's lose their minds when it comes to UFA's, the only thing they're giving up is cap space and their owner's money.

The high risk-reward, ballsy move would have been to trade Burrows this year for a a good young player instead of extending him and simply promoting Hansen. But again, Gillis would get ripped by the fans and media and moves like that get you fired if they don't work. That's move easier to ask for or make in a video game when your multi-million dollar job isn't on the line.

See, that's the kind of move that needed to be made. I would have been pissed, but eventually gotten over it. It would have changed the culture a bit, opened up cap space and a roster spot for a younger player (maybe).

Will be most interested by this pairing in the lineup tonight. If these two can show some chemistry that would be a nice boost for this team for the games that Booth is on the ice.

If I were Gillis I'd be watching teams that have lots of forward depth like the Wings, Blues, etc and see who they waive and consider make a claim.
