Why you Heff to be So Mad....
It's just preseason! - Byfuglien Ate Me
well, that doesn't mean it is ok to have that kind of behavior. Hey, Kessel is a great player, great talent. The first slash, ok fine, the second when he goes after scott when he is swarmed by leafs players, then the spear after, come on. I actually have more respect for Clarkson jumping the boards, coming to the aid of his teammate, knowing it is suspend-able. Just to clarify, I am mad at the league, not the leafs, poop happens on the ice, kessel reacted in a situation he has probably never been in before, doesn't make it right, but the league needs to set a better precedent. |

The flip side of that is that bad teams also give up A LOT more quality scoring chances than your average team. - MaximumBone

Brilliant rush at the end of the period by Larsen! Like, ridiculously good. If only Hall hadn't flubbed on the carry over into the offensive zone. - MaximumBone
He can skate but he doesn't hit, at all... i'd take Potter if he was healthy |

I think so too. Larsen looks like what you'd hope Grebeshkov would do. (frank) Grebs is so bad.
Belov looks decent enough too.

no it isn't.
your contention was that he might have a higher sv% because he faced so many shots. 38/40 is better than 18/20.
but the flip side is with MORE quality scoring chances that same sv% could down.
as u said stats don't tell the whole story. but that seems like exactly what you're trying to do. bypass the whole story and just concentrate on shot numbers.. |

it's funny...if kassian gets pre-season and five games for so called unintentional swing of his stick...and kessel gets less for intentional swinging... - deks1
that's exactly what gets me. It is like giving a free pass to all the top scorers in the league, to swing their sticks like golf clubs if they want, and it won't cost em a game. Shanny just created more problems for himself in the future by not giving him more games. |

I was very skeptical about this blog from reading the title...and then after 5 lines in I had to stop.
There it was...only five lines in...the description of Dubnyk's "one soft goal per game". Not only that, but it's a preseason game. I, and probably many others, am tired of Dubnyk's lackadaisical ho-hum attitude...which usually leads to a lack of concentration....which usually leads to a soft goal. This team is not good enough to allow "one soft goal per game".
He's not a #1. We need to find one of those eventually. - JLO961
People need to get off Dubnyks back he is a #1 goalie. Were you around to actually watch Fuhr when he was Edmonton's #1 goalie? Fuhr let in a fair amount of soft goals also. |

That makes sense....
But you just can't have guys like Scott doing that Crap to Guys like Kessel.
What if he had done that to Eberle?
I think the Fine for the poindexter and the light suspension is the msg the league is trying to send, right or wrong |

So quality of chances means nothing? So all those times that the Oilers defense let someone cut into the slot completely undefended last season, those shots were no more difficult for Dubnyk to save? Explain to me how it's the same point. |

Broke jaw vs maybe a bruise. As much as we don't want injuries to count in suspension they always do. |

any word on Hemsky? - freelancer
He came back in the third. Likely just left as a cautionary measure as his head whipped back into the boards after he missed his hit. |

He could afford to because they scored at such a high pace. |

sigh, you're technically right, shots do not equal scoring chances. (frank)ing annoying though cause they're so damn close and all the same correlations still apply. |

I don't have blind homerism towards my team. If Ebs was the one who did that, I would be saying the same thing. No Scott shouldn't be going after Kessel, blame Carlyle for having him out there, but kessel knows his team is gonna jump in, so why not tie up with him and maybe take a lick or two, and it is over. Hind sight is always 20/20. Would you rather a guy like Scott fight kessel, or someone else give an elbow or shoulder to kessels head in the game, accidental or not, and concuss the guy and cost him several games due to injury??? |

you're arguing my point. save % does not reflect quality of scoring chance, just like number of shots doesn't reflect quality of scoring chance. |

Again I agree with most of what you're saying, but Kessel trying to tie up Scott and taking a Lick or two probably results in the same injury. |

would you not say deliberate targeting with the stick is much more dangerous? shoulder to the head? elbow the face? |

Maybe so but that don't make him a superior goalie to Dubynk, it just means he had a better team behind him. Plus all that white powder going up Fuhrs nose seemed to help his game, similar to Ovie and steroids.

Probably is a very strong word to use in that situation. Considering how many fights where guys go toe to toe, trading blows, and skate away fine. There is no evidence to support or suggest that he would probably be injured the same, but like I said hind sight is 20/20, kessel has only a couple seconds to react. Not a lot of time to think about what to do |
