Just a hunch, but I think Hayes will be on the roster next week.

I'm also not sure Hossa will play much this year...I think LTIR is likely this season.

Shanahan is really a joke:

Kessel with (a) 2 stick swinging incidents this week, and (b) very dangerous slashes on Scott (certainly, admittedly, a butcher) - 3 PRE -SEASON game suspension.

Two incident of using a stick in an attempt to injure and no regular-season games off?

Shanahan said one of the swings on Scott was self-defense, and no suspension history.

But two incidents, and a free-swing to Scott's legs (while Scott was being occupied by other Leafs)....

Kassian got 5 for breaking Gagner's face, 3 is fine.

Kassian got regular season games, I think - Kessel only pre-season.

That's my gripe.

I don't get Shanahans logic about Kessel swinging in self defense. Scott was not swinging his stick at Kessel. Shanny is setting a dangerous precedent here that stick swinging is ok if a bigger player is coming after you.

thought winchester & peckham were picked up to offset the bullsh it, especially winchester who could definetly play. some one will pick him up. too bad because once he see's Hayes & a couple of others can't hack it, they'll be looking around themselves for a bottom 6 gritty vet. I see st. louis has issues also with space , interesting to see if Ryan Reeves becomes available. wouldn't mind seeing him & Bollig together on the same line to keep guys honest out there.

They would give him away before trading him to the hawks I have to believe. Besides more likely Cracknell or Porter is the odd man out.

Scott told him he was going to jump him. What do you expect him to do really. Try to fight him?

Couldn't he have just turtled instead of swinging his stick at him.

So that comment at a face off was enough to justify Kessel's Paul Bunyan routine immediately?

Star players get threatened verbally on the ice all the time. How many times do you think David Backes has told Toews he was going to kill him? Plenty I'd bet and there hasn't been any woodchopping response.

Stick swinging Kessel style can't be tolerated.

He was just trying to knock the extra runner off of Scott's skate. Scott going after Kessel was a total chickenpoop move.

Unless traded, do the salaries of Brookbank, Bollig, and Smith count against the cap whether they're on the roster, at Rockford, or placed on waivers?

So John Scott = David Backes ? Same Scott who had zero points and 70 PIM last year. Even Ryan Reaves looks like an offensive monster compared to Scott with 4 goals last year.

Yes your comparison is awful. And not to mention it happened right after some guy got his lunch handed to him.

Assuming that all three are on the roster, their cap hits will count against the cap. If sent to Rockford, any cap hit under $925,000 (minimum salary + $375,000) will not count against the cap. Being that Brookbank's cap hit is over that number, if he is sent to Rockford, the remainder over the $925,000 would still count against the cap. If any of the said players are claimed off waivers by another team, the Hawks would be on the hook for half of that given player's cap hit.

Your response is equally awful. The point is that stick swinging has no place in the game because the injury consequences can be catastrophic - see Ted Green for one.

That was Kessel's 2nd incident in about 10 days. If every verbal threat made against him or any star player results in a dangerous stick swinging response, somebody is going to get killed. (Sidney Crosby and the Sedins have likely been threatened more than any players in the league, what if he reacted as Phil K did?)

So now that Kessel has established himself as somebody who reacts that way, you can be sure the players on other teams will be ramping up the verbal threats just because they will try it to get him off his game.

I agree but stick swinging crosses a line and Shanahans decision sends the wrong message to the players.

John Scott is a worthless hockey player. To call him a pylon when describing his defensive prowess is an insult to orange cones around the world. He has no business being on any NHL team's roster. He's also still nowhere near the total asshat D-bag that Backes is...even after his shenanigans the other night. (frank) David Backes.

Under the new CBA there are no more re-entry waivers. If the Blackhawks waived Brookbank (for example) and he was claimed, the team that claimed him would be on the hook for 100% of his contract and cap hit.
