I'm not arguing the suspension, just the length of the suspension. Yes it's automatic, but when you look at the length of other suspensions for actions that are far more harmful to other players being shorter it just seems ridiculous. Basically the league is saying it is far worse for a player to hop over the bench and defend his teammate than it is to take a run at a guy's head and potentially injure him for the rest of his career.

Is it fair? According to the rules absolutely!
How about the NHL look at the optics of this...Clarkson did jump off the bench to join an altercation and that's not disputed.
What is ridiculous and makes the NHL a Mickey Mouse operation is Clarkson has to sit out for 10 games, 12% of the season..
Clarkson did not throw a single punch, Clarkson's actions didn't cause the Buffalo bench to empty which is why this rule was invented.
When you compare Clarkson's suspension to say Kassian who rearranged a guys face receives 5 regular season games or to other vicious acts which get the old 5 gamer.....How in the hell can the league justify giving Clarkson a 10 game suspension. The league is a (frank)ing joke and that's what happens when a guy with grade 12 (maybe) is handing out the suspensions. (Everybody else is like it's automatic) (frank) that, keep the rule but implement it based on the what happen on the ice. If Clarkson jumps over the boards and a full out bench brawl happens absolutely suspend him for the 10. That's what the rule was suppose to prevent and it has...... But this automatic bullpoop just makes the league look ridiculous, whe guys are maiming other players and receiving 1-5 games.
Clarkson should have to go before the league present his case and probably receive a 2-5 game suspension. (which is ridiculous)
Jesus Christ once every two weeks in baseball the benches clear and nobody fights they don't suspend the first guy from the bullpen for a 10th of the season...

1st of all, the Scott incident just happened, so it is a topic of conversion today. My position is in this circumstance, Scott is an idiot, Kessel is an idiot, Clarkson is an idiot, and both coaches are idiots for putting all these guys in that position. Shannahan is a joke for sure. The other aspect of this that makes no sense whatsoever is how Clarkson is allowed to play the next 3 preseason games, but his suspension doesn't take effect until the reg season starts lol......such a broken system
