Tropp is a star player? His head was not driven into the ice. He and Devane were exchanging punches in a fight Tropp started when they both went down. Unfortunately, Tropp hit his head. Look at Devane's expression when he enters the box and looks back to see that Tropp is hurt. He was not happy about what happened.

you usually don't see such a large wussy move as the one Scott / Rolston made - it's unprecedented. It's new ground for everyone involved and deserves discussion for the integrity of the game. Scott is an innovator - he's evolving the fighting game. Like Brodeur playing the puck in the corners the rules of the game may have to change when players are being giant pussies. They can call it the John Scott rule.

again, its the wording. Like you said "leaving the bench". For example... If i just ended my shift and was cut, I would "leave the bench" to go and get stitched up. I didnt leave the bench and jump on the ice...but i did leave the bench and go to the change room to seek medical. Thats where the NHLPA lawyers will jump in... the will use the "wording of the rules" to TRY and get Clarkson's suspension reduced. after all thats what Lawyers do. its bogus, but thats what they do

Sorry for not being clearer, bud, he'd been on the ice during the previous shift. He never left the ice. Ergo he never went back to the bench to get the alleged instructions from Rolston to jump Kessel.

Scott said he was on the ice to jump someone. He told Kessel he was going to jump him. What instructions are needed? Scott knew what he was supposed to do when he was left out there.

Kessel is going to lose the spear argument as well. A spear is a spear regardless of the force. The fact that it came after 2 lumberjack slashes hurts his case even worse.

You're right on the second point. I've watched the Devane fight a number of times he was hitting Tropp as they both fell.

Have you watched the alleged spear? Really, do you think it's a penalty let alone a suspension?????? WTF? Reg Dunlop would have cut his career GP in half if this rule existed in the 70s. At the end of the day, this whole story glares of the old cliche "Two wrongs do not make a right" Scott was wrong to jump Kessel. Kessel was wrong to swing his stick. Clarkson, well, we don't even need to draw conclusions from that.
As a Leafs fan, I would have liked to see Kessel just skate away from Scott, making the Sabres look like complete idiots. Funny thing is, an agitator type like Kadri probably would have pointed and laughed at Scott for trying to fight him, further infuriating the Sabres, but not resulting in an immediate brawl. In the end, the opposite happened.
