Wiercioch and Dacosta have been the most impressive guys in camp thus far. He'll get his shot on the top line to tonight. Teams are interested. Remember he was highly sought after as a free agent. There will be a few teams that will take him off waivers. Knowing that the team is creating a market for him.

I actually quite like Da Costa. Would love to see him get a shot with decent players on a more regular basis. He just seems to be redundant on this team with the emergence of Turris, Pag, Zibby, Prince, etc up the middle during his time here. He was highly sought after 2/3 years ago when he signed, but really hasn't been able to do much to warrant that type of interest again. Bobby Butler was the same type of story. I agree that teams are interested, but I don't think it for anything substantial. That's what I am basically saying.

As for Wiercioch, I was a huge fan last year and wanted to see him used more. It's nice to see he is having a good training camp and adjusting nicely to the increased minutes. I have always felt since seeing him in the NHL he can be a top 4 guy who and quarterback the 2nd PP unit or even play alongside Karlsson on the 1st PP unit. Him and Cowen could make an epic pairing. Should be interesting to see how they do at the beginning of the season.

I think he could net a 3rd/4th rounder. It would be nice to be able to keep him in case of injury though.

Guys like Da Costa and O'brien have very little value on the trade market. You won't get much for guys who can't play at the NHL level for your team. I think Da Costa is seen a bit more enticing to teams, so you may get a similar aged player for him with a low potential ceiling. O'brien deserves a better fate, but right now has no value unless you throw him in with someone else in a deal like Smith.

That's why I think a soft pick is probably the best option. Give yourself a chance at grabbing a good player.
