At the end of the day we're going to beat you in the standings and in the alley this year. All this has done is make sure we rub it in after the fact. Let the games begin

One of these days, the NHL and its Player Safety Department (or lack thereof) will stop their annoying lip-service and become serious about protecting that 725 players who comprise the NHLPA.

When I first heard the verdict regarding Phil Kessel's three game "suspension", I laughed. I seriously snorted aloud in a group of people whom I was standing with. I showed a hockey Mom the Brendan Shanahan verdict video, with the sound turned down, so as to acquaint her with the seriousness of the Kessel stick-swinging assault on his opposing player. She watched it in shock, then asked me to rewind it. She watched the assault a second time. This time, her brow crinkled, her eyes tightened up. Jaw clenched, she said to me:

"I hope that bastard was sent to jail".

She was referring to Phil Kessel.

I told her that Kessel was only reprimanded for three, garbage, meaningless exhibition games for his assault on John Scott's legs. She was flabbergasted.

She told me that her son had played travel hockey when he was younger and that he was the victim of a similar stick swinging incident when he was playing Bantam AA hockey. Her son escaped the fracas with only a welt on the side of his neck from where the opponent's stick slashed him after her son had scored on OT game winning goal. She told me that she, her husband, and the parents and coaches on her team applied so much heat to the travel board of directors and to the governing hockey body that the aggressor, a 15 year old, was given a one year ban from travel hockey. Fortunately for her and her son, and the others families of players. their travel hockey league had and still has a Zero Tolerance policy for stick infractions and match penalties. Good thing. How else will kids ever learn valuable lessons?

They certainly can't watch NHLers and follow their leads as "role models"

Sabres are a joke of a team. They didn't even make the playoffs last year.
