You are just posting things today that are going to get me into trouble.
I still think Daniel Carcillo was totally correct in fighting in that game, and I think it's revisionist history that because the Flyers lost, it was wrong.
I was watching that game. Somebody on the Pens deserved a beating that day, because they had started running around because they were losing. It's not Carcillo's fault that three guys let Evgeni Malkin come out of the corner with the puck and score either the tying or winning goal -- I can't remember. - AllInForFlyers
They didn't lose the game because of the fight. But at the same time, they had just taken a 3-0 lead, the building was going, and the Pens looked beat. Once that fight happened, the Pittsburgh bench woke up. It caused a huge momentum shift that got Pittsburgh going. |

I remember in the game in 11/12 versus Pittsburgh where Briere got run late that Simmonds ended up going with Engelland. That did not end very well for him. - jmatchett383
If I remember, I even think Simmonds had an injury, or, it was the same guy where he took a puck off the face?
Either way, that was a ballsy move by Simmonds. |

It wasnt really bad coaching... he put out the best guys, but didnt get the result he was hoping for...
Kinda like Homer spending to the cap to put out the best lineup, and not getting the results he had hoped for and having to pay a price as a result of that.
Wait, thats not bad cap management?
Im confused. - jak521
I'd be happy to continue the Cap management discussion on the other thread if you desire to. And yes, it was poor Coaching. Scott was out there for an obvious reason. And putting Kessel next to him on the draw, was foolish. |

No, the Ottawa game was where he scored with his face. But injury or not, he was the biggest guy out there so he stood up to Engelland. Good for him and the team but...man, he got it taken to him. |

If there is one lesson the league has learned about the Pens is that when they start running around out there because things go badly for them is to simply let them continue to play undisciplined hockey. |

Carcillo won that fight in my opinion. Not sure how winning a fight causes the other team to get the other team fired up. Carcillo answered the challenge there. The problem was that the Flyers bench didn't back Carcillo up, and answer the challenge. But that's old news. |

dude, everytime Simmonds took a puck to the face we won.
Lucky charm right there.
My favorite was his goal deflecting it in with his face. |

I don't have a problem with that, because I'd like to get some young guys in the NHL lineup and contributing. - MJL
Absolutely. We are definately lacking youth on this team. |

I can't think of why, but for whatever reason, I thought Simmonds was injured when he took that fight on.

Clarkson might actually be able to hold his own... John Scott is no Derek Boogaard... he gets handled by much smaller guys with regularity. - Tomahawk
But you just said the point wasn't to win the fight, so why not put out basically a throw away player to "take that beating?" |

Who's younger McGinn or Rosehill? What's better for the future, playing Rosehill every game, or trying to develop McGinn? |

It wasn't winning the fight, it was the fact that Max Talbot fought Carcillo. The Penguins said in TV interviews afterward that Talbot got them fired up. |

Win or lose, you just want to avoid somebody getting hurt badly (or a fiasco like Scott going after Kessel). Clarkson is the only guy in that lineup with any real scrapping experience -- probably why he raced off the bench. |

What do you think went through Miller's mind when Bernier skated over.
Aw crap... I gotta do this don't I?

His record according to Hockeyfights.com contradicts your opinion on Scott as a fighter. He's been the voted winner on almost every fight he's been in the last 3-4 Regular Seasons. Including over some very good fighters such as Engelland and Parros. |

Yeah. I know Clarkson's the best choice, but that's like sending out Hartnell to fight Scott. He's the best choice, but you don't want him doing anything more than to basically just grab on and hope the refs can break it up. |

Watched this the other night. Very interesting movie to say the least. It's basically Mutant League Hockey for roller derby. |

It probably did. They already were fired up. But it probably got the Penguins more fired up. they were able to run with it and get a quick goal, and then it was downhill for the Flyers from there. There's a reason that fighters can't fight for their own personal reasons, and that's something Carcillo never learned. |

Well we disagree then on if Carcillo did anything wrong there. The Flyers bench simply didn't respond to the Pens. Like Carcillo did. Carcillo answered the challenge. The rest of the team, not so much. |
