How has he shown he's not good enough to be one? He's been a starter for how many Season now, and has been a Vezina finalist. Why wouldn't he view himself as a starter? - MJL
I'm sure he views himself as being many things.
The 30 teams in the NHL don't see him as a backup, let alone a starter. |

Which 4 were they? - MJL
Calgary, Edmonton, Florida, and Minnesota.
Kipper retired, Dubnyk's not proven yet (although they already have 1 older very in Khabibulin, so....), Florida brought in Thomas to help easie in Markstrom, and I had thought Backstrom was out of Minny, but was wrong. So 3. |

You don't know that. Who knows what teams have talked to Bryzalov's agent, and what teams haven't. Just like Gagne told his agent not to talk to other teams, because he was waiting on the Flyers. You're making a lot of assumptions there. There is endless reasons that can speculated why he hasn't signed somewhere at this point. With only one of those reasons being that 30 teams don't want him. |

That's a save that should be made in my opinion. But overall, I think Emery played a strong game, and looked good. - MJL
i give him a pass. looked worse than it was. he played a great game.
unfortunately giroux's shot hit the post moments earlier. otherwise we're looking at 1-1 and who knows how it ends. |

Just because Dubnyk is not proven yet, doesn't mean the spot was open. If the team is not actively shopping for a starter in the off season, then the spot isn't open. |

He's not on an NHL roster. That's a fact, not an assumption. |

Khabibulin signed with CHicago to replace Emery. I'd have to check to see who their backup is now, but I believe Dubnyk is their guy. |

Might be due to salary cap problems. |

Very possible. Don't know what Bryzgalov's salary demands are. |

FWIW some observations from last nights game:
Laughton: Had some jump in his skates and overall played well; he certainly wouldn't look out of place centering the 4th line.
Raffl: Meh, looked ok, but I can't see any way he should be on the 3rd line over Talbot. I'm fine with him as the 4th line LW
I thought the line of Talbot-Couturier-Read looked really good and I would be very happy with that combo as the 3rd line.
After seeing the cannon one timer Giroux took on the pp, I'm not at all worried about his hand injury any more.
Thought they played pretty well overall in the 2nd and 3rd periods, however it would have been nice if someone other than Talbot, Couturier, Read and Emery bothered to show up in the 1st.
The 2nd goal was a bit questionable, but overall I thought Emery played pretty well.
All in all it was a typical preseason game: vets going through the motions (except for the Devils Salvador, who must be nuts diving in front of shots in a preseason game!), kids flying all over the ice and generally a boring game with bits of action here and there.
FWIW, this would be my lineup for the opener, assuming no one is traded.
Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Schenn-Vinnie-Simmonds
Talbot-Couturier-Read
Raffle or Rosehill-Laughton-Rinaldo
Timonen-Coburn
Streit-Schenn
Mezaros-Grossmann
Emery
Mason
spares: Rosehill or Raffle, Hall and Gus |

Read was the most noticeable player out there. Puck seemed to be finding him all game long. |

Hexy is here to run the Phantoms, unless they were penciling gags into the AHL lineup, I doubt it.
