Who said Carle would have made a difference? All I said was he was a better skater.

I didn't state that you did. That was a point that I added.

Breeze created an atmosphere when it would've been near impossible to keep him regardless of his play. His comments about Stalin, the Philly area, Philly people on welfare, etc., were an obvious ploy to get his ticket punched.

It almost seemed to me that he though the Flyers were on the fence about giving him one more year and he was having none of it.

I totally agree with this, thats why i was in favor of getting rid of him. I still think he is a decent goalie, but all the extra nonesense i could have done without.

Agreed. He was looking for a way out of town. His below average play was enough to get him out of here, the Stalin garbage among all the other asinine crap was the cherry on the sundae.

Water under the bridge now. Hopefully Mason/Emery can provide some competitive goaltending. My concern is if Mason struggles early, Emery may be given a workload that could lead to an injury.

Gagne isn't in the League right now either. I guess he suck also.

How many starting spots in goal were available this past off season?

And the Flyers team defense was superb last night. They moved the puck efficiently out of their own zone the entire game, to limit the amount of time that the Devils spent in the Flyers end of the ice. Which led to boatloads of transition attack time against the Devils. And Emery, who played well most of the game, looked great on that weak backhander on the Devils 2nd goal.

Gordie Howe, and Bobby Orr aren't in the League now. Those guys really blow.

Comparing Gagne to a goaltender who signed a 9 yr 51 million dollar contract is laughable.

I'd take Bobby Orr and his knee issues over Hal Gill.

that weak backhander got by him because the shooter actually didn't shoot the puck when he intended as he got tangled with the flyers d. emery dropped into the butterfly to make the save and didn't recover in time.

Gagne has been beaten down by injuries. What is Bryzgalov's excuse for no team in the league being interested in him?

I don't think there is any chance Gill makes the team. Heck if the Flyers only go with 7 dmen Gervais might not make it.

I didn't compare Gagne to Bryzgalov. I simply inferred that there are many reasons why a good player can be unsigned at this point.

But there is on big difference between the two. Gagne isn't getting paid. Bryzgalov is.

Last night reminded me a lot of last season..... a bit scary. Dominated early, turnovers, bad breakouts, no support or team cohesion, etc ....

That's a save that should be made in my opinion. But overall, I think Emery played a strong game, and looked good.

How many teams were looking for a starting goaltender this off season?

I wouldn't call getting outshot 8-0 dominating early.

4 by my count, and a few looking for vet backups.

Why would Bryz expect to be a starting goaltender?

Chicago are paying a 40 year old Russian $2 million to be their backup.

My bad. After that rough start, I thought they actually played better as a whole with a few short lapses.

One of the reasons why Gagne remains unsigned is the Flyers feel Raffl is a better option. We are going to find out if they are right.

Why wouldn't he? He's in a position where he's not desperate, and can wait to sign somewhere he feels is the best situation for him.

Because he's shown he's not good enough to be one, and if he misses a full season his value will drop even further.

I agree. So there can be a lot of circumstances towards a player remaining unsigned.

How has he shown he's not good enough to be one? He's been a starter for how many Season now, and has been a Vezina finalist. Why wouldn't he view himself as a starter?
