on a plus note, thought emery looked pretty solid last night. feeling much much better going into season with him/mason than bryz - SMS4016
If nothing else, it will be about the same for less $$. But yeah, he did look good last night. Lost his angle on the Zidlicky goal, but Gus got caught flat-footed as Zidlicky moved closer. |

Its not that they lost, its how they lost and how similar it is to every devils/rangers loss. - PhillaBully

I think we're going to get fewer "WTF" moments with Emery/Mason than we had with Bryz. |

for once goaltending might not be the problem.. |

Does anyone else find it amazing that the Flyers gave Bryzgalov a 9 year 51 million dollar contract a little more than two years ago, and the guy isn't even in the League now?
Biggest flop in team history. |

I wouldnt either if lavy wasnt behind the bench. I think this is a playoff team that might be sabotaged on their way to a playoff birth by Lavy...Its the same damn system with pretty much the same damn players....Why expect different results? |

I found it pretty amusing how many Bryzgalov apologists there were.
The Flyers team defense is clearly to blame for him no longer being in the NHL. |

He wasn't the only problem, but he wasn't part of the solution either, especially for the $$ he was making. |

especially when we could have picked him off waivers from anaheim years ago. i believe no one picked him up and he signed as free agent in pho? |

it's amazing, yet so typical in a bizarre way.
he's the biggest flop because he didn't get a longer opportunity to stay and undo the distraction. when he was good, he was really good. he was far from the real problem with the team - but it was easy to look at him because of all the media nonsense since he wasn't stealing games. the team was a (frank)ing mess in front of him, but he didn't help himself either.
gratton to me is another one. good lord. |

If you stop the puck the quirky personality would be tolerated. You can't be a sieve, and act like a clown to boot. |

I actually thought he'd turned it around after the Pens' series. He was arguably their best player in the Devils series (he almost stole them Game 2), and he was playing well individually early on last season. Then it all sort of came undone. |

This.
When you make the coin Bryz was making, you better do more than whine to the GM about the good ole days with your old head coach and the system he ran. |

first half of last season he was keeping them in games. in The NJD playoff series he was the best player by a mile. im not going to point the finger at him, but after his comments at the end of last season it was time for him to go. |

He played well for stretches, but the consistency wasn't there. Just a myriad of things went wrong. But when you combine the expectations with his contract he's definitely the biggest flop in team history. Maybe not all his fault, but as you say he brought a lot of it on himself. |

yep. he finally got his game together in march and was on fire. then he suffered the toe/foot injury in warm ups - and while not recapturing that same level of play upon his return, was still decent against the pens, and without question was their best player against NJ. that series was a (frank)ing embarrassment - but hey, it's all the weird goalie's fault.
i don't mind that they moved on from him because his level of play wasn't in concert with his contract. pretty expensive mistake though. i wonder if they had signed him to a deal at say $3+ million a year for 4 or 5 years would people have been so quick to point a finger and want to run him out of town. |

They probably wouldn't have been that upset, but his agent probably would have advised him to hit the open market. |

Breeze created an atmosphere when it would've been near impossible to keep him regardless of his play. His comments about Stalin, the Philly area, Philly people on welfare, etc., were an obvious ploy to get his ticket punched.
It almost seemed to me that he though the Flyers were on the fence about giving him one more year and he was having none of it. |

I know he's not known for his speed, but he just has a weird stride, as opposed to a guy like Carle who was a very smooth skater, and it just rubs me the wrong way.
Do I think he's literally terrified of the puck? Of course not, he's a veteran NHL player. But he's supposed to be this PP specialist, and I've yet to see any signs of that on the Flyers thus far. I'm not one of the "SHOOOOOOOOOT" guys, but he had at least 2 good looks last night and seemed to be very hesitant. Hopefully he scores 70 goals and lifts the Cup as a Flyer at the end of the year. - jmatchett383
Well the player has a different perspective on the ice. If he chose not to shoot, I'm sure there was a good reason why. I have zero worries about Streit offensively or on the PP. Streit is good offensively, but he's not as good of an all around player as Carle is. But Carle wouldn't have made a difference last night either. |

Gagne isn't in the League right now either. I guess he suck also.
How many starting spots in goal were available this past off season?
And the Flyers team defense was superb last night. They moved the puck efficiently out of their own zone the entire game, to limit the amount of time that the Devils spent in the Flyers end of the ice. Which led to boatloads of transition attack time against the Devils. And Emery, who played well most of the game, looked great on that weak backhander on the Devils 2nd goal. |
