That's why I said they should be looking into it, not they should keep him. If you have to keep Gervais/Rosehill in Adirondack for an extra 2 weeks to give Laughton his 9 games, so be it. They can even travel with the team if need be since there's no more recall waivers, they just will be sent down on paper. - jmatchett383
It's all going to have to do with what the Flyers decide to do on Sept 30th, so I don't see a scenario where Gervais/Rosehill would have to be kept in Adirondack, unless the Flyers choose to keep them there. A player assigned to the AHL can't take part in NHL team functions unless officially recalled. |

So he'll get less than 5 games for taking a 2-handed swing at a guy who was engaged with another player and not even standing...sounds fair. - jmatchett383
I think that last swing is where the issue is going to be. That swing was no longer about protecting himself, but seemed to be about inflicting injury. |

You'll be lucky if he gets any games at all.
In my opinion it was a lot of bad decisions.
Tropp wanted the fight with Devane. It was the wrong decision. Devane finished it, obviously didn’t hold back anything.
It should have ended there.
Scott going after Kessel was ridiculous. Personally I think he should be smacked in the head by every “enforcer” in the league. Going after stars not in your weight class is why enforcers get bad names. However, it should have gotten him a game misconduct at the most and tossed from this game only… And the only reason for that is so that they could shut him up and not have him start additional altercations or have other people gunning for him.
Kessel’s slashes were uncalled for. ALL of them. I’d personally like to see him get a 2 – 3 game suspension. But I doubt he gets it - star "defending" himself and he did get some slash minors.
I understand Clarkson’s decision to jump the bench but it’s an automatic ruling. 10 games.
Can we stop posting Gagner's pic? Grosses me out... Ugh. Poor guy. |

Bill, do you know what the projected lineup is for tonight. I am assuming Giroux will not be playing. |

Don't forget the skate back and spear him after everything was almost calmed down. Dumb. |

Love seeing that white game day jersey on the blog.
The season is really almost here, that was a long summer indeed.
I think Raffle has the inside tract, but I kind of like Van de Velde right now.

That's what I meant by the last swing, but you're right, it was a spear. The whole thing was dumb. Scott had no legitimate reason to go after Kessel. Scott is the most to blame in my opinion. |

I agree. I don't condone the first one, but he at least has an excuse. The second one, when he was no longer in danger, should be treated as a direct intent to injure and should get him 10+, in my book. Much worse than someone coming off the bench, although I know that's an automatic 10. |

Agreed.
If the problem was with Devane hitting Kopp on the way down, Scott should have taken it up with Devane. If the "code" dictated that Scott go after Kessel after something like that, then the "code" is stupid and wrong. |

That was a pretty amazing sequence. I also noticed that Kessel ended up tuning the guy he DID fight.

So what should scott and rolston get then? Thats the biggest joke of all they completely instigated the situation and will get no discipline. |

My favorite part was Miller getting pummeled. I showed my wife the fight, and she said Miller was "very good at getting punched in the face." Gave me flashbacks to Riley Cote. |

Unfortunately, there's nothing in the NHL rulebook at you can really pin on Scott past the in-game penalties he got.
What he SHOULD get is, next time they play Toronto, 5 guys who get him in a corner and just gang beat the crap out of him. |

Did Rolston send Scott out there?
I was of the impression that Scott was already on the ice and would not come off or something like that. |

I hope the brass was honest when they said a young guy would need to blow the doors off to avoid going back to juniors. - bodiva88
I do, too -- if he's ready, great. But if not, it would be nice for him to go back and work on the things that will make him a no-doubter for a roster spot.
I think there is a benefit in winning a spot, as opposed to not losing it.

Absolutely. I think they realized their mistake when they basically penciled Giroux in for a spot his rookie year. |

So it almost sounds like the fight for the 3rd winger is Raffle, then Vandevelde, then Laughton?
Is that the consensus? |

An on-ice incident incites a bench of hockey players, and triggers their coach to send the tough guy out there on the very next shift to send a message... never witnessed before in the history of the game... pure shock and outrage!
/sarcasm off
The real joke is how badly Carlyle's tactical decision has backfired for him, and his team. I get that he tried to send his top line out there to try to diffuse the situation, but somebody was obviously going to have to answer the bell with John Scott out there foaming at the mouth... with last change, why even put Kessel and Bozak in that situation. If not for TJ Brennan and Carter Ashton, Kessel would probably have a broken face in addition to his impending suspension. Clarkson gone for 10... way to go Randy. |
