It's surreal to me that Laviolette and the Flyers haven't been able to adjust to good forechecking teams after 3 and a half years

I saw 5 times that period, where the Flyers defenseman had the puck near the blueline, and there were 2 or 3 Devils between him and the nearest Flyer forward.

Yeah seriously. This is a mirror image of that ghastly playoff series 2 years ago, well except of course NJ has way less talented players.

I can't help you there...

I prefer Comcast but they wouldn't give me a break on the price anymore. I had to switch to FIOS. It's $70 less per month. Any idea how many regular season games are on TCN this season?

Even if it is a little more boring to watch, I'd like to get a coach that puts more emphasis on strict team defense, and a slower offensive build-up as a result. We have the passers and two-way forwards to play a system like that.

Off the top of my head, I think it's around 8 or so.

The positives from that period.

1. This game doesn't count
2. The super glue holding Meszaros shoulder together held up
3. Raffl looked like a combination of Nodl and Thoreson

i know it's preseason, training camp, means nothing, testing young guys out, blah, blah, but (frank)...it's the same old (frank)ing thing with them, especially against the devils.

It's both. I advocated for Laviolette to be fired, but the players also need to be able to read the play and react accordingly.

I also noticed Giroux being overaggressive on a forecheck that lead to a NJ 3 on 2, that they botched & went off sides on. That's on the player.

I have Fios as well. Not many are on TCN only a few a season. You can check though on the flyers site, the schedule lists the stations. You'll like Fios the first time you call customer service, night and day better than Comcast. I think their customer service is run by hell's rejects.

I actually think Mez has looked pretty good so far in preseason. From my perspective, he definitely has Gus beat for the 6th spot at this point. Raffl has looked bad this game, but he looked alright in the other preseason games. He's not gonna be amazing, we want him for a 3rd line defensive role.

I saw a glimmer in Raffl. Couple of crap passes he actually did something with...

I'm not expecting mid February levels of play, but it's the same (frank)ing thing, over and over...good forechecking teams completely stymie their transitional game and limit their offense and wear down their defense.

True, but it's also on the coach(es) to see that mistake and correct/punish accordingly.

He looks like "just a guy" out there...not awful, but hardly a guy who I'd be eager to count on to play 10-12 minutes a night.

Agreed. I get worried because it's looking like the same old, same old against a good forechecking team...even though it's a pre-season game and you have guys just getting going and they haven't played for a week.

He hasn't been eating his proper rations of Swedish meatballs from IKEA. It's how Lidstrom stayed at the top of his game for so long.

They could really use Rinaldo's energy. Every shift he takes you notice him.

Put Talbot on the third line, move Laugton to wing and let him play on the 4th line with Hall and Rinaldo.

And it's so obvious what they need to do, too. They just have to look around the league. The best teams in the league (Chicago, Boston, LA, Detroit) all put a strong emphasis on their team defense. It's right there, in front of us. They have the tools to run the system that brings teams great success, they just choose to neglect it.
