Why not? Have to let him play some games and see. I saw one game where he played in Pre Season. I liked what I saw.

He's from a small non-hockey country who's primary sports are skiing and soccer!

oh wait... let me try again:
No NHL teams wanted him until age 24!

crap! one more try:
he projects to be a marginal player!

Dammit! Once more:
We refused Gagne a role so we could have a spot for this guy!

Ya that's about all I can go on...

but seriously, he's looked pretty good in preseason so far. I think he'll be a good addition

they have so much $$ tied up in older players and that doesn't give them salary flexibility or leverage they need and...oh, boy...

Phillies have around $40 million to spend next year. they need to resign or replace Ruiz, Halladay and Young. They should've did last year what they did this year. Play the young players and see what you have.

I still like what I posted earlier...let the unknowns start the year on the 3rd or 4th line, see what they could do. VandeVeld has the smallest jump, but Raffl is a bigger unknown in terms of how his game will work on the small ice.

After the CBA re-read, it's possible they keep Laughton and carry 14 forwards for the first 9 games, with Laughton as the 4th center and VandeVelde on the 3rd or 4th line wing, and Hall starting off as a spare piece.

VandeVelde has to clear waivers, if he's even signed to a NHL deal. Laughton can't return from juniors if he's sent down and Raffl has no waiver limitations for this year at least. That stuff could be a factor, too

i hear ya. i understand the situation they're in, and honestly, don't have a huge problem with going this route. you never know, someone might step up (ala brad marchand, or one of countless blackhawks)

i just find myself hoping that laughton kills it at the end of preseason and makes it. because i have a tough time getting excited about raffl (for no objective reason, just an instinct). obviously i hope it's just a case of restiveness before the start of the season

I think they both have a good chance to make it. Raffl as 3rd line LW and Laughton as 4th line C.

Just feel safe with the fact that, no matter who earns those roles, Homer is driving us into the ground, and we'll be bottom feeders for the next decade or more.

The saddest word in that is "if" he returns to play in the NHL. Poor kid. What a freakish injury.
