Looking forward to the season starting. We can actually discuss the games.

I think the Flyers generally do a good job drafting in the first round. After round 1, players become far less of a certainty. I'm sure other franchises have done a much better job than Philadelphia has drafting in rounds 2 and later.

I think a major issue of why the Flyers have a lack of draft picks is due to the constant injury situation year after year. Holmgren is often finding himself trying to trade for players to fill holes caused by injury.

The Flyers have done a very good job of selecting good players in the first round. It's the following rounds that have been a challenge.

Have other teams faced similar problems? Sure.

But when you realize that your most productive selection from the 2nd round on over the past ten years is Zac Rinaldo/Andreas Nodl...oh boy.

If everyone would simply ignore the incessant, constant Richard waiving arguing of semantics it would go away.

Richards waiving? I thought he was traded for purely hockey reasons?

No arguments from me. There has been a lot of swings and misses in the second round and beyond. Once in a while you have to find some players after round 1.

Edit: I think this year the Flyers might have something in Haag.

Third round pick is another story. If his ceiling is Zac Rinaldo, it's kinda of a waste since they already have a Zac Rinaldo.

That is a valid question. My opinion on the situation regarding Meszaros is I don't have much faith in him staying healthy, so if they can get something for him I would be ok with it. It would clear some cap space, and give the Flyers some flexibility at the deadline.

One issue is, if they trade him, it depletes the depth, and when the injuries come, you are going to have the likes of Lauridsen, and Manning in the lineup as regulars.

Or even more frightening Gervais. Gervais is ok in small doses, but when he's used frequently he gets exposed.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I can't stand all this $$$ talk. Maybe it's because I don't have any? I don't want to know what these guy are spending or making or paying. I am fairly confident that the Flyers will manage to put a team on the ice and their salaries will comply with the rules of the NHL by the time the season starts.

Yea, but they wont have Cleary.... and they wont have enough money to get Weber and Stamkos at the deadline when they become available.

Let the Flyers bean counters hash out the cap. Have they made mistakes? Sure, more than other teams? I'm not sure if that's the case or not.

I have no real interest in learning all the minutia of the Salary Cap. It's extremely boring and confusing.

Could be worse.... We could be discussing all the nuiances of Football. At least its the NHL cap we are talking to death, not the NFL cap. Or when a reciever is defenseless etc...

It's getting late. He's still got some tread on the tire. I think majority of Flyers fans would prefer to have Gagne on the third line right now as opposed to an unknown entity.

Being a fan to me mostly constitutes watching the games. Getting too wrapped up in salary caps, rules etc. is kind of a waste of time in my opinion.

A person doesn't need to understand all the intricate details of that stuff to have a sound knowledge and understanding for the game.

Some of these discussions are good. For one, it teaches you patience for when you kids bug the poop out of you like some people on this board, you dont just pop them. Secondly, you actaully learn alot. So when you hear some drunken fan calling Couturier a bust because he doesnt score a ton of goals, you can say.... thank god I acutally understand....

I'd rather have the unknown entity, at least at the start of the season.

The injuries concern me, and honestly he doesn't bring anything to the table that they can't add at the trade deadline for a modest cost. Let a kid play and see if he can do a good job.

Raffl is a 24 year old rookie that had multiple suitors. Matt Read was a 24 year old rookie that had numerous suitors. Perhaps VandeVeld can step in and do a serviceable job. Worst case scenario is that Talbot plays on the third line and they end up using Raffl, VandeVeld or Laughton on the 4th line.

*please note there was zero mention of the salary cap in this post.
